Do you wait 30 mins after coffee before brushing teeth? Or brush first thing?

If you brush immediately after getting up, how long do you wait until having tea or coffee then?

I brush after coffee/ breakfast and try to always wait at least an hour. I keep reading it's better to brush first thing but don't want my coffee to taste minty.

After. If I don't have coffee first then I probably wouldn't be ABLE to brush my teeth Grin

GreyhpundGirl · 10/01/2024 19:32

I don't leave any set time after having coffee in the morning. They get brushed when they get brushed.

megletthesecond · 10/01/2024 19:33

Wait until a while after breakfast.

Ponderingwindow · 10/01/2024 19:33

Get up, brush teeth, have coffee within about 3 minutes.

my coffee tastes delicious. I don’t use flavored toothpaste though.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 10/01/2024 19:35

I brush my teeth first thing, and my first tea/coffee of the day is at work about an hour later.

joyfulnessss · 10/01/2024 19:36

My coffee tastes sour if I drink it within 30 min after brushing teeth

I get up and eat breakfast then sort my skin out and put makeup on, do hair, get dressed and lastly clean teeth. I’m 52 and haven’t had a filling since childhood.

PrawnLiberationFront · 10/01/2024 19:36

I brush after breakfast, which includes coffee. What's the logic of waiting for an hour first?

Caledoniablue · 10/01/2024 19:37

Get up, stagger downstairs and down at least 2 cups of coffee before I can even contemplate getting up the stairs again to brush teeth Grin

Is your breath ok in the morning? I wake up with the sensation and smell f something having died in my mouth overnight. I need to get that stuff out asap

43ontherocksporfavor · 10/01/2024 19:38

Not really, I have a cup of tea first thing .

namelessnameface · 10/01/2024 19:38

I clean teeth after breakfast & coffee. Feels wrong to eat and drink immediately brushing 🤣

TomeTome · 10/01/2024 19:44

I clean my teeth before breakfast. I think bed breath at breakfast is really yucky. I like the minty fresh breath with coffee. I had my first filling at 32

Daisypod · 10/01/2024 19:47

My dentist recently told me you should brush as soon as you wake up and before eating/drinking. I always assumed after would be better but she also said you need to leave at least 30 mins after food/drink before brushing as it can damage the enamel doing it too soon

Me too 😆

Hmm I'd only get this if I have a hangover/ otherwise dehydrated. Obviously my mouth isn't perfectly daisy fresh but it doesn't taste or smell bad. Is your mouth dry when you wake up @joyfulnessss , I wonder if it's dryness that does it?

Brushing straight after can weaken enamel, as you are brushing the acids in. If you wait 30 mins after eating/ drinking, it's better.

I try to always wait but if I'm in a rush and needs must, I rinse with water thoroughly before brushing.

I know you're supposed to do it before- I'm a dental nurse and my husbands a dentist and we both do it after breakfast 🙈

Yes. Definitely dryness is involved. I also have digestive issues and I think this doesn't help. It's VILE. If anything ever happened to my long long standing dh there is no way I could ever wake next to anyone else 🤣

Hibernatalie · 10/01/2024 20:35

I brush my teeth as soon as I wake up. Coffee straight after on the weekends, an hour after on weekdays when I get to work.

Singinghollybob · 10/01/2024 20:55

I brush when I wake up and always always before eating or drinking anything.

TornApartByLisa · 10/01/2024 21:04

First thing, spit but don't rinse, coffee and breakfast around half an hour later. I'm trying to instil the habit of brushing first thing in my daughter so that she doesn't have the same problems with her teeth that I've had.

angelikacpickles · 10/01/2024 21:11

Coffee about 30 to 45 mins after brushing teeth.

Essie274 · 10/01/2024 21:15

Wake up, drink water, brush teeth, do skincare/hair/get dressed, sort DC out getting dressed (DH does breakfast while I'm doing the former), eat breakfast and THEN coffee. Then if I'm at home I'll brush again around an hour after coffee, but if I'm heading out I usually don't have time for a second teeth brush/coffee is usually in a to-go cup as I'm heading out the door!
