AIBU to think I should have stopped testing positive (miscarriage)?!

Posting for traffic as I could really do with advice.

I had a miscarriage at 8 weeks on December the 16th (started bleeding that day and continued) and finally stopped pain and bleeding 10 days later.

However I am still testing positive. I understand that hormones take a while to settle but can anyone reassure me that after 3.5 weeks this is ok?

Hospital said to give them a call if I was still testing positive three weeks after miscarriage but I’m not sure what date this would be? Do they mean when the mc started or stopped?

thanks so much!

I was still testing positive at that point (also 8 weeks). I rang them and went back for a scan and there was a tiny bit of tissue retained, but they said not to worry, it would come out on its own. It took another two and a bit weeks before I was testing negative.

I’d just contact them tomorrow for their advice as you could have some retained products. Have you had a period since the miscarriage yet? With mine I didn’t test negative until after the next period, I guess it must have cleared out whatever was left.

I tested positive for over 5 weeks, I just stopped testing at that point.
I’m sorry for your loss Flowers

Thank you so much for all your advice.
that’s reassuring and sounds like it won’t hurt giving the hospital a call.

I haven’t had a period yet.
Im desperately hoping it’ll come soon.
feels like that will help mentally with drawing a line in the sand

I had a miscarriage in September - measuring 7 weeks, but discovered at my 12 week scan.
I tested positive for about 5 weeks.
I have only just started my first period.
Sorry for your loss x

Oh gosh that’s such a wait. I’m really sorry.

I’m sure others feel the same but for me having my period will signify some normality.

Also not to derail but no one ever warns you that it’s a lengthy and physically exhausting pain process.

I'm so sorry for your loss. This happened to me after one of my mc. I had some tissue left - either call the early pregnancy unit or ask your GP to refer you. Hopefully they'll scan you or you'll get your period. I also had a cyst on my ovary which delayed my period for 6 months that cycle.

Good luck 🤞🏽

I did have some spotting - but yeah, nearly 4 months for a period 🙄

Thank you for all the responses and comments
I am so sorry you all went through this.
I just feel like women aren’t warned about how absolutely horrendous mc can be.

I will phone the hospital this week and get their advice x
