I thought DH was winding me up earlier. He’s fascinated with space travel/moon landings etc and it’s one subject where I often just smile and nod.

Am morbidly fascinated now by the whole thing, not least because the whole thing has gone so wrong. Anybody else been following this and can share some insight into the whole thing?

It’s not like the DNA could survive in the vacuum of the Moon. I suppose that is why the plan was to keep it safely inside the lander. Now the rocket is just space trash and will drift about and be a hazard for any manned missions to the moon.

I always wanted to be an astronaut. I've always said when I die I want my ashes blasted into space because somehow I don't think I'll ever be a spacewoman!

Why do humans have this desire to pollute everything? There are microplastics inside our own bodies and those of other animals. A vast amount of rubbish floating around in the oceans. Barrels of toxic waste on the seabed. Nuclear fallout in the atmosphere from nuclear weapons testing, which has made some land close to the test sites uninhabitable. That is enough, surely?

It’s weird. I mean the remains are already in space, on this planet which is also in space. And when this planet is annihilated those atoms - which will have belonged to many other subsequent life forms - will be released into the void in the newly formed Sol Nebula.

I think a past astronaut has said that the moon has lots of structures around the other side that don't belong to any human civilisation. So being the first this and first that is all shit anyway.
