The chances of cancer returning

My mother was diagnosed with bowel cancer in October 2022. It was a big tumour but it hadn’t spread and was removed with no need for radiotherapy/chemo. She has had various consultants appointments since as well as a couple of scans and all were really good news.

Mum lost over half a stone in two weeks a month or so ago, various stressful situations could be to blame, but the GP organised blood tests and a scan which were over a month ago now. She has a consultants appointment next week re the results. The appointment was made with him at the same time as the scan and blood test so prior to any results being known. No one has called with any results, would they have done if it was bad news? Based on last time everything was moved along very quickly when they knew it was cancer. Would the gp/consultant have called if it was bad news or would they wait the month until she sees the consultant?

With so much going on over Christmas and New Year i managed to distract myself but now my mind has gone into overdrive.

i know no one can know whats what but i wondered what others experiences were.

Thank you.

When was her last scan?

BlackForestCherry · 08/01/2024 21:50

Thanks for replying. It was 5 months prior to the one she had a month ago and the consultant said he was really pleased with everything.

Can you phone the GP for the results? Just to maybe have some kind on information before the consultant appointment. I hope it's a false alarm and it hasn't returned 💐

I’m sure she could but she said she doesn’t want to know beforehand in case it’s bad news. I just want her to log onto the doctors surgery app and check as I’m sure her blood tests will all be on it.

I know it’s just a waiting game but it’s driving me crazy.

Thank you for replying.

It’s such a hard time waiting for results, your mind goes into overdrive, I think the blood tests will be back now but I understand if your mum doesn’t want to view them yet, the blood test results sometimes are hard to read so can lead to panic unless you know what you are looking for, try hang on in there, do as much as poss to fill these days up until the appointment so you mind is as occupied as it can be, are you going with your mum to the appointment?

It’s difficult to say and, if you ask the GP, they will probably tell you that you need to wait till next week’s appointment anyway. I agree with the PP who said you and DM just need to keep as busy and distracted as possible before then.
