To be annoyed at Christmas weight gain

I worked really, really hard over the summer and I lost just over a stone (which I'd put on after having my youngest who's now 2). I weighed 9 stone 13 before Christmas. Just got on the scales and I'm 10 stone 4 😭 my starting weight pre summer 2023 was 11 stone 1, and I'm terrified it's going to creep back up. I know I've been eating the wrong things and not exercising so it's my own fault really.

Anyone else annoyed for similar reasons? If so feel free to rant here!

It’s only 5lbs. Get back on track and you will lose it. I over eat at Christmas, I don’t get on the scales in January. Instead I eat well throughout Jan and weigh myself at the end, even if I haven’t lost any additional weight from my pre Christmas weight I feel better than I would have knowing I had put on lbs because of a couple of weeks of over eating.

I went from 70-74kg over xmas. Already down to 73. Likely a lot is just water weight. Get back on it and it’ll come off quickly enough

TempleOfBloom · 06/01/2024 17:43

Don’t panic!

Put yourself back on a healthy eating and exercise plan and you will be back on track by Valentine’s Day.

It will just be bloat. I've been eating healthy since Tuesday and dropped 4lb!!! That's not "fat" it's just all the water weight from too much salt and crap over Xmas

sofedupandtiredofthis · 06/01/2024 17:45

Yeah I'm sure some of it is water weight tbh as I'm also due on my period which doesn't help 😫

I gained 4lb aiming to lose if in next 2 weeks - just get back on whatever you did to lose weight last time

Cherrysoup · 06/01/2024 18:13

I lost 5lbs in the past three weeks. I stopped drinking, avoided the mince pies and went for long walks in the woods with the dogs. If you can, aim for 6000 steps a day (really hard if you’re stuck at a computer all day) and increase your fluid intake, it really does help. I’ve got a stupidly big water bottle-2 litres-that I aim to get through, although tea and coffee are equally useful, I find.

Don’t despair, 5lbs is apparently average over Christmas and shouldn’t be too awful to get rid of. Good luck!

Damnloginpopup · 06/01/2024 19:54

I put in 3kg over Christmas. Finished the carby crap then got hammered on new year's and am now eating no carb, high veg, minimal meat, drinking loads of (very) dilute lime cordial and avoiding alcohol. I'm down that 3kg and have another kg to go to get down to my summer weight.

I expected the bloat, I allowed it and now I'm blitzing it. You can too.

Feellikeafailurenow · 06/01/2024 20:23

I also gained 5lbs over christmas & new year. I’ll lose it by February

SoOutingWhoCares · 06/01/2024 20:33

5lbs will come off in no time. Drink lots of water, cut down on salt and carbs, up your protein and veg and you could have easily lost that by next weekend.

mintmagnum3 · 06/01/2024 20:37

I put 6 pounds on in 5 days over Xmas 🙈

If you make some positive changes those pounds will be off in a couple weeks.
Just try and remind yourself that your weight will fluctuate. Nobody weighs the same forever.

Tighginn · 06/01/2024 20:41

Nature's way of cozying you up for the cold snap ahead.

I'm in a similar boat! Weighed in at my slimming club today and 5.5lbs on! However I know why (Christmas scoffing, eating without thinking).

I lost 1.5st since summer so at least I did that first or else it would be even higher!

I need to be able to enjoy myself and indulge every once in a while or it'd be pretty miserable imo.

But I did it before and can do it again. And you can too! I feel pretty motivated right now. I think I just need to accept my weight will fluctuate, but I can't let it get out of control.

Mummypete · 06/01/2024 20:55

Yep I was 4lb heavier on the 5th January than I was on 5th December. I’m giving myself another week of eating the leftover Christmas food and then I’ll be back on it.
I usually eat pretty healthily and workout a lot anyway so I’m sure once I stop snacking and drinking alcohol it will soon disappear. Then around Easter I generally start trying a lot harder with my diet ready for summer.

Thejewellershands · 06/01/2024 21:04

Are you me?! At the start of summer I also weighed 11st 1. I lost a stone so got down to 10st but when I went back to work this week my trousers were tight so I know I’ve gained weight. I haven’t weighed myself but I am also due on so hoping some of it is bloating 😬 trying to be healthy and lose it again now. If we’ve done it once, we can do it again! 5lbs shouldn’t be too hard
