To have forgotten how good Morning and afternoon post was…

Not the post exciting topic I know, but it’s surprised me.
I’ve started getting the 7am early post and early afternoon post too. Today’s midday post had a same day local letter!
We’re getting daily post too. Often a late afternoon large parcel run!
aibu to think of they’d never dropped this we’d all have stuck with post a bit more

Ooh whys that then? Are they shifting the backlog?

RachelSTG · 06/01/2024 12:04

Do people still get enough post to warrant bi-daily deliveries? I don't really get post as all of my statements are paper less and online. I get occasional junk mail and amazon deliveries but no letters or much in the way of other correspondence.

We always used to have it (London). I’ve had no late letters for months, all my pay checks etc arrive quickly

In answer to your question, no. I don't think it would have made a difference since the invention of electronic mail.

We’ve seen to have had a lot. Opening a bank account for the kids, I get posted pay slips still and work stuff here. I guess it’s why I notice it. Few eBay bits too in large letter abs a comic or two

You get payslips posted? That's very antiquated and certainly not the norm. I've had electronic payslips for at least 4 plus years.

TheChosenTwo · 06/01/2024 12:10

We hardly get any post at all now,
mostly gone paperless.
Our road only seems to get deliveries on a Tuesday and a Friday these days.
I really can’t see that there’s much demand for twice daily deliveries, I think your level of post is probably more than the average but I’m only basing that on comparing both me and you so I might be way off!

FuckingHellAdele · 06/01/2024 12:13

It would be totally wasted on me, we get actual proper post maybe once a fortnight if that?

mottytotty · 06/01/2024 12:37

I don’t miss the bi-daily post at all. It’s not like there’s anything exciting in it.

There have been times when I needed things urgently (like a bank statement for a mortgage application), but even a lot of that can be handled by online banking. On that occasion where online banking wasn’t an option, then the slow post was a bit annoying, but those occasions are literally once in a blue moon.

I do love parcels, but again, have never needed anything that urgently.

Funnily enough I have a major employer, a local authority. I was surprised but it causes no harm

I'm lucky if I get a delivery 3 times a week!

Same here 🤬

I get irrationally angry every time a letter comes through. If it’s junk, then I need to waste my time throwing it out. If it’s confidential, then I need to waste my time shredding it and then throwing it out.

Tiredoutoday · 06/01/2024 13:06

Are you sure you aren’t dreaming mirrorback? Although the other day we had a knock at the door and it was the post at 10am you should have seen the commotion it caused,
“post!”
What?
Post,
Can’t be
it is look,
oh yes
he’s got a red jacket on and a some envelopes !
Quick Look!
I kid you not!

RedRobyn2021 · 06/01/2024 19:50

You get post more than once a day? Is this a thing??

My postman comes around 1pm every day to our village

I'm really shocked that post can be deliverered twice a day

Originalusername89 · 06/01/2024 20:19

I didn't know twice a day post is (or was) a thing.

However in our area, I've noticed letters/general mail gets delivered late morning, then parcels or special deliveries often come in a second van later in the day. So maybe it's an efficiency thing? We do live within a few miles a major depot...

Lougle · 06/01/2024 20:43

I think post is outdated. I had to post some documents to the DWP today. I paid £8.15 to send them special delivery (need tracking).

I have photocopied or printed every document. All pages needed to have my Dad's National Insurance number on them. I then posted them. At the other end, someone will scan them onto the file.

A huge expense and so time consuming, when I could have just uploaded them onto a website (like they do with fit notes for people claiming ESA).

Post is expensive, time consuming, and inefficient.

MirrorBack · 06/01/2024 20:44

I started to wonder that myself. Another postman came at 3pm ish. Maybe they have given up or rounds/ any kind of organised service and just are walking out with what they see
