To buy a long quilted/ puffa coat

Love the way they look but will I boil alive in it? I walk a lot at a decent pace and live in north west England. Menopausal. Have tried on so many and have found one that's relatively light (by Passenger).

Anyone got one and love/ regret/ indifferent to it (and any brands you would recommend/avoid?) I've needed a new coat for a few years now so want to get it right and not buy a white elephant.

I think a long quilted coat is for standing around watching kids play sports, or for dog walking when you’re strolling along, so not likely to get too hot. If you are planning on fast walking you will be too hot in one. I got rid of mine when my dog died, and I didn’t really need it any more. I have since bought a long thinner coat for wandering around in, but wouldn’t wear it if I was going on a proper walk as it would be too much.

I use mine for dog walking and break duty at work (I’m a teacher). They’re a godsend for that! They’re not too hot either.

Thanks for this. Am keeping it!

Dh brought me one. Very handy for kids matches or if your standing about or walking in the cold.
I tend to not use mine if jumping in and out of the car for shopping etc as too bulky

I have one and love it!! Great for walks along the sea front when the wind is brisk, keeps your legs warm too! I've worn it on cold city breaks and usually to work too if the weather is horrendous. Added bonus is it feels like a duvet and it's ridiculously cosy.

borntobequiet · 06/01/2024 11:28

I bought one three years ago and have worn it about five times, it’s so hot.

Love mine!

I have yet to find a coat warm enough for UK weather if anyone can suggest one that would be great.

Coatscoatscoast · 06/01/2024 11:46

What one did you get from passenger OP? I love coats <see user name> but am perimenopausal, overweight, and live in the south so most are too hot for me therefore I must live vicariously through colder folk

BIossomtoes · 06/01/2024 11:46

Mine’s my go to. I’ve never been too hot in it.

PurpleFlower1983 · 06/01/2024 11:47

The Supaga one always comes out really highly rated.

PurpleFlower1983 · 06/01/2024 11:48

Superdry!!

My DH bought me one from Uniqlo a few years ago and I love it. It was mainly for playground duty (another teacher here) but I wear it all the time. I generally run hot but it's perfect and so cosy and comforting.

AlphaVTango · 06/01/2024 11:53

I've just bought a long quilted coat from Passenger this month. Late 40's menopausal, slightly overweight and live in the South. Worn it most days on short and long walks, love it. I bought this one.

If it's the same one I have from Passenger, it's quite lightweight and I don't overheat in it at all. That's why I like it. Uber light and non bulky.

Wearegoingtoneedabiggerboat · 06/01/2024 11:55

Mine is only slightly padded, so not too hot. Tend to feel cold at the start of a walk but at end I am unzipping it. got from mountain warehouse think it was around £250.

Poblano · 06/01/2024 11:57

I have a down one, which doesn't get too hot. I had one that was synthetic filled and that was too hot. No idea whether this is coincidence, but when I replace it I will buy another down one.

I would probably pass out going for a walk in a dry robe. I have one, but it is only used for getting changed after sea swimming.
