The Ally Pally Darts crowd

Are a bit loud!
I don't remember dart crowds being that loud when it was on TV a long time ago. If you are like that at a snooker tournament when you have to concentrate, you get told off. '

But the darts crowd.

How do the players concentrate? Don't other fans who are trying to watch get annoyed with how loud it is?

@edwinbear it's actually really good fun. My boys went as the Beatles in sergeant peppers outfits this year :)

Sorry about the train. I imagine it would be the same for football, rugby, any major sporting occasion?

Good old sun newspaper! Luke littlers birth certificate!

The Ally Pally Darts crowd
KrisAkabusi · 03/01/2024 12:13

Truly pathetic, disgusting behaviour! Commenting on a boy's looks so much that newspapers are actually posting his birth cert! Have they learned nothing about invasion of privacy over the years? He's a good darts player, he's allowed live his life without all these personal comments. @stomachameleon you're as bad, posting his cert in here!

At least it’s not sexual. Remember The Sun’s countdown for Charlotte Church turning 16? Now that was bad.

And how is @stomachameleon bad for posting something from a newspaper? 🙄

KrisAkabusi · 03/01/2024 12:19

By repeating it and continuing to circulate it

edwinbear · 03/01/2024 12:23

I'm sure it's the same at any sporting event and no harm done - we were just a bit surprised really to find ourselves travelling with over excited, adult sized condiment bottles! I was vaguely concerned about how they would relieve themselves of the beer as nature took its course, they didn't look like the easiest of outfits to get into or out of.

Lovelyjubbbly · 03/01/2024 12:23

My partner plays darts also. He is used to the noise and doesn’t bother him it actually makes him play better.

but I don’t understand how it cannot put the players off with the booing.

i remember one year watching the Darts and Gerwin Price was playing and he actually went out at the break between play and our head phones on to block the noise because the fans hated him so much but he asked for it the way he shouts and balls he’s calmed down a bit now but it was very funny he was getting boo’ed every game I think a number of the times the fans that done it did get put out because it wasn’t just booing it was shouting nasty things .

ILove2024Already · 03/01/2024 13:01

Amazing atmosphere, very loud but people just having the best time. Makes me proud to be British😂

DaftFlerken · 03/01/2024 13:17

I think he's great & am actually very tempted to watch it, I really hope he wins he's a great advert for the sport.

What I am a little confused about is the fancy dress - is it just a thing people have always done at the darts ? How did it come about?

cakeorwine · 03/01/2024 18:02

It puts me off watching it.
I like one on one games - tennis, snooker, and the tension that each action by a player counts.

But the noise does put me off. I do remember watching darts in "the old days" and it wasn't like that.

Darts is a pub game. Years ago players used to have a pint and a fag whilst playing. The crowd is just an extension of that. I love the atmosphere. It seems like everyone is having a great time.

You might also want to avoid cricket OP. Doesn’t come across as much on tv, but live cricket is also lots of fancy dress and drinking.

Yes but usually only allowed in certain parts of the ground, e.g. Western Terrace at Headingley. If you like actually watching the cricket you can choose to sit somewhere more civilised! Smile

Been to the cricket - but a long time ago.
And the rugby at Twickenham
