To think Gucci loafers are horrible

You see celebrities wearing them, and they presumably cost a bomb, but they look so frumpy to me, and rarely go with the rest of the outfit. Is it supposed to be a geek chic, so frumpy it’s stylish, kind of a thing?

What style do you not like ? I wouldn’t call any of their current styles frumpy, some wouldn’t be to my taste but others I could definitely wear.

TheChosenTwo · 02/01/2024 21:42

I don’t like any loafers regardless of the brand!
They all seem really dowdy to me.

mottytotty · 02/01/2024 21:42

Which ones?

I like a loafer and the plain black ones look comfy.

Out of my budget though 🤣

Actupfishy · 02/01/2024 21:42

Love them.
Comfy, classic and versatile.
Each to their own.

MartinsSpareCalculator · 02/01/2024 21:57

I love loafers and I'm very stylish. I'm not familiar with Gucci loafers as it isn't a brand I'm a particular fan of.

MNUse · 02/01/2024 21:59

This would be an example, although normally they have a closed heel and are more often black. To be fair it’s partly that I think they look ludicrously out of key with the rest of the outfit, but I also don’t like them in and of themselves:

This outfit I love, but the shoes really aren’t doing it for me, they look like autumn/winter when the outfit is summer: https://images.app.goo.gl/Gdhv3Z5sqvEhBJe78

I think at a push they could look OK with black tights and a plaid mini, but even then I wouldn’t love them. Something about them really makes me think of David Cameron wearing black dress shoes with jeans. It’s like their vibe is an attempt at casual style by people who don’t know how to look casual (though obviously Sienna Miller and Dakota Johnson do in other pics)

I hate the slip on loafers. They're awful.
If you gave me the normal gucci loafers I'd wear those occasionally.

EvilElsa · 02/01/2024 22:16

I hate a backless loafer, but absolutely love normal ones. Just got a new cherry red pair in the sales.

I love these. I hate wearing heels and these feel smart when I can’t wear trainers e.g. to work.

The slip ons don’t look good for feet, I think they will cause feet issues long term.

MNUse · 02/01/2024 22:19

I like some other styles/brands of loafer, to be clear, this isn’t a universally anti-loafer post, but I don’t get the Gucci ones.

I’m not mad about the backless loafers but I’ve several pairs of similar ‘non backless’ ones from Russell & Bromley and they are fab and classic. They look great with a cotton shirt or t-shirt and slim or straight trousers or jeans. Not with wide leg jeans/trousers though.

What style of shoe do you like, OP?

MNUse · 02/01/2024 22:37

Jenna Coleman does it better. Not 100% sure these are Gucci but I think they are. Definitely at their best styled with black tights and an above-the-knee skirt imo, the chunkier sole and heel are also an improvement aesthetically but I still think they’re quite difficult to style well:

Never liked a loafer- or cared about stylish. Probably on the wrong thread 😳

Minewasthesame · 02/01/2024 22:41

I really like them

I wear them with jodhpurs and long socks between events at horse shows so trust me, they are not always stylish. Just easy to slip on and off.

AceOfCups · 02/01/2024 22:47

I love them. Comfortable and dressier than trainers.

I agree they are massively dressier than trainers, which is why they look really odd imo as a trainer alternative (at the weekend, with jeans).

I'm currently wearing a pair of distinctly frumpy, thick-soled, chunky loafers. I love them. I do keep knocking things over because they make my feet bigger than expected 😂

biscuitnut · 02/01/2024 22:53

My friend wears them and they give me the rage. She wears them all the more because she knows how much I hate them. 😂 They are bloody hideous. I am not a loafer fan so it might be me.

Fizzadora · 02/01/2024 22:55

It's rather funny that I keep getting an advert for the big slipper on this thread😀

TedMullins · 02/01/2024 22:56

Oh they’re awful! They’re the kind of shoes old ladies would wear when I was a kid, when old people seemed to universally dress in drab coloured nylon macs and chinos (men) or knee length pleated skirts (women). You see this kind of shoe in charity shops a lot. I do like a super chunky loafer though like the Prada ones.

Design classic. I don't have them but I like the look
