In-laws favouritism to grandchildren

We went to the in-laws on Christmas Eve. It was us and our two DC (16,21) and BIL with his 3 DC (14, 16,16). MIL gave my DC a gift each which looked like it had come from a charity shop with yellowing tape and one even had a best before date of November 2022 - a cheap perfume. MIL then announced to BIL’s DC that she’s just given them an envelope of cash each, which they were very pleased about. Husband got home, phoned MIL and asked what the favouritism was all about and demanded and explanation with regard to the junk our DC received. She said she must have made a mistake???? AIBU to not want to buy her the £100 food hamper she gets every year from us again next year? I’d rather stop the whole gift giving altogether because it creates such animosity.

I would stop the 100 pound gift and get some cheap perfume and flowers or something

What did she say when he called her out on it??

She said “oh I must have put the wrong thing in the bag” she has no other grandchildren other than the ones that were there. The other thing was a craft kit for an 8 year old that you can’t find on line anywhere. She said it cost her £15. It looks like it came out of a skip. Crushed box, yellowing tape, possibly from a house clearance back in 1973

Oh bloody hell! Bin the lot and give them some cash. Don’t send the hamper next year!

My in laws are like this- doesn't help that my girls cousins are all boys and they hugely favour boy children. We just ignore and don't do presents for adults (read them) anymore. And see as little of them as possible.
