What is London like today if we go there for a general walk around visit?

As its bank holiday are there better congestion and parking options?

Will it be busy if we just want to walk around?

It will not be busy at all, and most stuff of any significance will not be open - defo check before travelling

London is a big place. I would avoid the shopping areas like Oxford Street, but generally it shouldn't be super crowded. Me and DH love walking round London at this time of year, but we live here so don't have to worry about parking.

Depending where you want to go. In past years we attempted to visit friends near Westfield and couldn’t get near because of traffic. I definitely wouldn’t go anywhere near shops in Boxing Day again. But the parks will be fine or somewhere like the Southbank.

I’d take sandwiches too as you can’t guarantee what will be open for food. Maybe check cafe/ restaurant openings for whichever area you want to head to.

You don’t need to take sandwiches. It’s London, there are loads of places open.

Congestion charge is suspended until New Years, ULEZ charge still applies.

karmakameleon · 26/12/2023 08:54

It definitely which area you head to. We often head into London on Xmas day/ Boxing Day and some parts are dead (the City of London won’t have much available unless you know where to look) and others are heaving (the shopping areas will be busy). Given the OP is looking for somewhere quiet it’s perfectly possible she may choose somewhere with not much open, jenny suggestion to check.

No need to take sandwiches!

Really depends where you are - we live in central, and I'm just starting a loaf for bacon sangers as there's nothing (decent) open

Just listening to Radio London and they have a reporter in Oxford Street saying how quiet it is there.
