To not feel the least bit Christmassy

Not sure if it's because I'm at work today, the DC are teens so no Xmas magic, or because it's 12 degrees but I cannot find my festive spirit anywhere!

I'm the same, I think it's quite okay to feel like that. Is it a long shift today or can you relax a bit with a glass of wine when you get in?

Boredatthemoment · 24/12/2023 10:50

I didn’t take any Christmas deco out of the loft. I only have a wreath on my front door that I made myself. Not feeling Christmas at all this year.

Snackpocket · 24/12/2023 10:54

I just feel like it’s all speeding by in a blur. I need some down time but that’s not looking likely for the next few days and before I know it I’ll be back at work!

Ah it's just 10/2, very lucky to work for a company who reduce the shift length on Xmas and new year Eve

I need to replace the broccoli I bought yesterday as it's gone bad (cheers lidl) then can have a glass of baileys while I wrap the stocking presents!

I'm the same , none existent this year at all , it's Christmas eve and I still feel the same , my kids are older too so there's no excitement really 😔

CharlieCoCo · 24/12/2023 14:49

i agree, it doesnt feel christmassy this year, not sure if its because the year went so fast or the weather.

OrchardBlack · 24/12/2023 14:52

I agree OP. Never felt like this before. Fed up!

Whatsthestorynow · 24/12/2023 14:52

I think the weather doesn’t help as it’s so mild. We’re having a very small Christmas just me, DP & DD who is 5. It’s nice for a change but my DD is autistic & hates all Christmas music & doesn’t want to go out! So not really feeling it either.

JamSandle · 24/12/2023 14:53

I dont think it really matters. People put so much pressure on this time of year. It's just another day.

itsgettingweird · 24/12/2023 14:56

I think it's better to ask what Christmas spirit is!

I think we have this idea in our heads but it isn't anything in particular.

Mh ds is 19 now and my mum died last year. I feel differently now because it's different. But I'll still live tomorrow with my dad and siblings and my siblings ILs.

We will celebrate Christmas, we will laugh and play games - so I guess that's Xmas spirit?

inappropriateportioncontrol · 24/12/2023 14:57

@fatandhappy47 broccoli is a nightmare for turning on you and although I generally love Lidls their broccoli is not the best .

As for Christmas ,I'm deploying fairylights and a few candles .And have learned to have low expectations .

Hermione101 · 24/12/2023 15:02

I feel the same. I’m Canadian and miss the snow and all the winter sports. The blue sky, sun, and colder weather. We always used to cut down our own tree from the woods behind our house, and it always felt so much more special.

OwlWeiwei · 24/12/2023 15:03

It's just like that some years. It dips a bit when they are teens. Maybe enjoy a quieter time - no need to entertain them 24/7. Just watch films, go for walks, eat food you love.

janfebmarchapril · 24/12/2023 20:13

I don't either I don't know why

romdowa · 24/12/2023 20:15

Same here but we've a toddler with tonsillitis. So there's definitely no festive cheer here

murasaki · 24/12/2023 20:15

Me too. I can't even be arsed to turn the lights on on the tree. The fridge is full of nice things, and I don't want them. Not sure why.

sadsack78 · 24/12/2023 20:39

Same here- just not feeling it.

My Dh beccame chronically ill and I am his carer now- between that and the pandemic, the last few years have felt like wading through treacle with nothing much to celebrate or make one day different from another.

Bonkerz · 24/12/2023 21:23

Mine are 23/18/12.
Had early Christmas at beginning of dec with 22 year old.
Took other 3 to Christmas event today. Put on a smile and tried to be festive.
Tomorrow I'm sure we will all drag ourselves out of bed and I will watch them open gifts inbetween sorting lunch. Then they will all bugger off till tea time while I sit on sofa alone.
Christmas is weird with older kids but that's ok.
