AIBU to not buy Christmas chocolate given that DH has spent the last 6 months lecturing us all about the evils of sugar?

DH asked where the Christmas chocolate was. I told him I wasn’t buying any - there’s a tub of celebrations for visitors, everyone else has chocolate in their stockings/ presents, and since he has taken up his latest diet he frequently lectures us on the evils of all the various kinds of sugar so I didn’t think there would be any point buying it for him.

We do have other , equally evil, Christmas sweet food in, so it’s not as Scrooge-like as it sounds.

I'm sure he's quite capable of buying his own anyway if he wants to be a hypocrite.

Inertia · 23/12/2023 14:17

Exactly. He knows where the shops are.

It's a trap. Don't do it. Let him buy his own chocolates and take responsibility for the consequences.

Yes he's fucking with the OP's head - he wants her to buy them so he can have his cake and eat it, i.e. enjoy the chocolates and then enjoy beating on the OP about how awful she is for buying them. Classic abuse pattern.

Cut up some carrots for him and put them in a tub instead.

I love this

That's quite the reach. More likely OP has bought chocolate in previous years and now he's wondering why she didn't this time. There doesn't have to be a sinister reason for everything.

FlyingCherub · 23/12/2023 14:37

I refused to buy loads of boxes of chocolates/sweet treats this year as DH scoffs through it at a rate of knots and is then grumpy as hell from sugar overload. Plus he then doesn't eat meals properly. He may be 59 but he cannot regulate his sugar intake by himself Hmm

I splurged and got a massive wreath box from hotel chocolat instead and he's been warned not to open it before our Christmas visitors arrive.

Olika · 23/12/2023 14:49

Well done. He can go and buy himself so then he cannot say anything as it's completely on him.

OrigamiOwls · 23/12/2023 14:51

He can take himself to the shop if he wants some. He's reaping what he's sown.

BoredofBlonde · 23/12/2023 14:56

Are you married to one of the van Tulleken doctors? He keeps boring on about sugar too

Apparently vegetables are trying to kill us as well (it’s a carnivorous core diet) . He does eat veg a couple of times a week.

I’d have to leave some mince out.

Eek, that’s taken a dark turn. He’s not an abusive partner, but I can see how this could be part of a pattern in an abusive relationship.

We've both recently done the Zoë thing and sugar really is a bit evil for me and very evil for DH.

But I have bought the Christmas chocolate - a couple of bars of the montezumas 100%. We actually like a square or two of that but DD isn't impressed (shes 24 and I've bought her some normal chocolates which I'm sure she can keep out of DHs way, before anyone pities the poor deprived childGrin)

Put some beef jerky in a box for him.

Stick some tins of spam inside an empty Cadbury's tub.
