Will this cause food poisoning? Worried!

My friend brought a veggie curry round to share (we were having a Jacobs Join with a few other friends). She re-heated it in the microwave and we served it up. I started eating it then realised there was rice mixed in with the veggies and korma sauce 😭 as soon as I realised I stopped eating it.

Obviously I know you’re not meant to re-heat rice and it’s 5 days before Christmas, I really don’t want to get food poisoning 😫

I have never gotten ill from reheating rice. As a south Asian most days we eat rice.

Baircasolly · 20/12/2023 16:18

I know you're not "meant" to reheat rice, but I do it all the time 🤷‍♀️

If you only had a few mouthfuls, I'm sure you'll be fine.

dreamingofsun · 20/12/2023 16:19

You use reheated rice in eggfried rice. its fine as long as its not been allowed to sit at room temperature for hours and hours.

Hermittrismegistus · 20/12/2023 16:20

Why didn't you just vomit it back up at the time if you were so worried?

Twodogsandababe · 20/12/2023 16:20

I've reheated rice plenty of times, as long as it's refrigerated after cooking and piping hot on reheating. Never had any problems, I'm sure you'll be fine.

Lammveg · 20/12/2023 16:20

I'm sure it's not the actual reheating that's the problem, it's more to do with having the rice left at room temperature for a while after cooking it the first time.

IWishThatICouldBeWorryFree · 20/12/2023 16:20

It’s frighteningly easy to get food poising from rice if it’s been sat around at room temp, rather than being refrigerated after cooking, even if it’s then reheated properly.

As long as your friend has good food standards you’ll likely be fine.

RougeFraise · 20/12/2023 16:21

Reheated rice is fine. The advice is to refrigerate asap and reheat and eat within 24h. However my DH doesn’t give a shit and eats 3 day old rice quite happily to no ill effect.

TheSnowyOwl · 20/12/2023 16:22

The odds are you will be fine.

Rockingaroundthecrimbotree · 20/12/2023 16:22

Thanks all.

Does anyone know how quickly it would come on if it I do have it?

Ratfinkstinkypink · 20/12/2023 16:30

It's usually pretty swift if you do get food poisoning from rice, if you are still OK this time tomorrow, which you will be, you can forget about it.

Squirrelblanket · 20/12/2023 17:00

Seriously 🤣

MBM18 · 20/12/2023 20:15

I always reheat rice from leftover takeaways 😳 didn't know you wasn't meant to.
So saying that OP, I've always been fine!

dementedpixie · 20/12/2023 20:22

If the rice was cooled quickly and put in the fridge then you'll be fine. It's not the reheating that's the issue but how quickly it was cooled and refrigerated after cooking

familyissues12345 · 20/12/2023 20:22

What's a Jacob's join?

I'm sure you'll be fine! As long as the rice was piping hot

Chilicabbage · 20/12/2023 20:26

How do people think rice is done in restaurants? They cook each portion separately to each order??? No.
