To lighten my hair at home?

Naturally brunette but have a lot of highlights and a money piece. Last had my hair done in early November and my next hair appointment is in 2 weeks, so will be spending Christmas being very rooty!

aibu to lighten the root area near my money piece? Or will it make it harder for my hairdresser to sort my hair out in a couple of weeks? I have a facial hair lightener at home for eyebrows, and was thinking to just use that to touch up the roots and take the edge off the harsh contrast between the blonde and my natural colour. Not trying to use the bleach to go completely blonde in my regrowth, just to lighten the regrowth by a couple of shades so it blends better

From bitter, bitter experience.. please don't do this!

It's risky because you don't have toner, might end up orange, it will incur more damage and the hairdresser will have a hard time dealing with it. I doubt anyone will notice your roots but you, I would wait.

I wouldn't home dye as it won't work with your hairdresser appointment, pony tail scraped back? Hairband?

Ahh I left the eyebrow bleach on for about 5 minutes over the money piece regrowth. It slightly blends the blonde sections at the front with my darker regrowth, by taking the edge off. Should tide me over as there isn’t a demarcation line now.

@Alex Drake the problem is my regrowth is darker, so a scraped back ponytail makes the contrast look more prominent!

Glad you got away with it but in future it would be safer to go the other way and use a coloured hairspray to darken up your highlights. Or at least blur the line a bit.

WestStone · 19/12/2023 03:53

i didn’t even think of that thank you! X

I think you did ok. I’m a bit scared of using bleach at home, so I use this spray on product to give me a month or so before I need to get touch up done.

What is a money piece?

Google says "The money piece is a section of hair that is lighter and brighter around the face. This can be through highlights, babylights, weaves, or slices. Whatever technique you choose, be it bold or natural, the main focus is that this hair stands out from the rest of the hair directly behind the money piece."
