Worried about lack of wet nappies with cold - 7 month old DD

Hi everyone

DD has another cold, full of snot, coughing alot, leaky eyes etc.

She's more or less completely refused any liquid today, she's had 5oz total of milk (she usually has 4 8oz bottles) she's had a few sips of water here and there out of her straw cup.

Her nappies are bone dry, she's had one today which seemed to have a few wee's in it this morning but maybe only 1 or 2 tiny wees since? I've tried syringing water, she coughs and splutters it out and gags.

She has no temperature, she has only had a slice of melon and a couple of spoons of porridge all day. I can't get her to eat or drink.

How quick should I get her seen regarding dehydration? Shall I try and give a dream feed when she's asleep and if she refuses call 111?

I hate feeling over the top about things but I know how fast babies can go downhill and I'm worried.

@elm26 you're not ridiculous at all! It's awful when they're ill. Be kind to yourself and hopefully she'll be well on the road to recovery over the next couple of days 😊

Oh that’s good, she sounds a bit perkier today. It’s horrible when they’re ill isn’t it? It’s not like you can even explain to them what’s going on or that they’ll feel better soon etc.

She took a turn for the worse about an hour after I posted, had a huge coughing fit and vomited so much liquid I have no idea where it came from!

Dr sent her straight into hospital with bronchiolitis. Merry bloody Christmas x

Poor baby hope she's better soon xxx

Hope she's better soon, you're in the right place. My DD had that as newborn, it was rough but got through it OK

KnitFastDieWarm · 19/12/2023 14:06

Oh bless her - shows your mama instincts were right! We know our little ones best and we know on a gut level when something isn’t right. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery and hopefully you’ll be out of hospital by Christmas - once she gets treatment she should be on the mend very soon. Look after yourself x

Thank you, we are home and she's just coughing and coughing with no relief. It's a nightmare 😢

@elm26 oh dear what a worry for you.
how is she now? You must go back if you don’t feel happy with her. Sad to say but you sometimes have to push and advocate for them. Good luck and sending a virtual hug.

elm26 · 20/12/2023 05:33

Thanks @homeeddingwitch she's been up coughing and projectile vomiting milk and mucus, a cot sheet change for her, a bedsheet change for us and a pj change for me. I've put her in bed with DH propped up on a pillow and I'm laying on the sofa I can hear her coughing. She's had 12oz milk in 14 hours and vomited multiple times, if her nappy is dry when she wakes up fully I'll be taking her back to hospital x

Hope everything is OK @elm26 and that your dd is over the worst. Do remember though, being discharged from hospital means your child was fine to go home at that point. It's totally fine to ask them/gp to look again if they deteriorate or fail to improve. When ds1 was 2 he had norovirus plus tonsillitis and we spent 2 consecutive days/ nights cycling bw home, gp and a&e before he stabilised.

@elm26
What a difficult time she’s having 😞
How is she today? Did you go back?
