TLDR - I won 2 tickets in a giveaway but then the company sold them instead.
I entered a social media competition, run by a local company who my family uses regularly and we have a good relationship with. It was for 2 tickets to an event tonight. You had to follow the company, tag someone you wanted to take with you and share on your story for an extra entry.
The competition closed last night and they said they would DM the winner. I didn't get a DM and thought no more of it.
The social media person from the company called me this afternoon at about 3 and said I could have the 2 tickets. That phrasing was a bit weird, but I assumed that the drawn winner couldn't make it and they had then drawn my name.
I asked for a couple of minutes to check arrangements and they said ok. So I went to check with DD(10) as she is autistic and although she would love the event it was obviously a very short notice plan change and it would be quite a stressful environment. She was excited but nervous so I reassured her and she was pleased to be going.
I called the company back and they said to come straight over to get the tickets, due to the timings and travel we would have had to leave for the event straight after.
DD rushed down ready to go and my phone rang as we left. The company was calling to say that the tickets had gone , the owner had sold the tickets and someone had come to get them already!
Well I had to break it to DD, who had been so brave in agreeing to changing plans. She was gutted.
I messaged the company and said that I felt very let down as a loyal company and that my daughter was upset. I asked if anyone actually won, and sent them the ASA guidance on prize draws on social media https://www.asa.org.uk/advice-online/promotional-marketing-prize-draws-in-social-media.html
AIBU to report them and pursue this, or should I let it go?
