To be worried about feeding baby formula ?

My baby is 8 weeks old formula fed aptimal from day one . She only drinks the ready made bottles (won’t take the powdered) but seeing all the thing online about it being filled with crap ingredients /sugar etc and all the risks for Sid’s/ diabetes and all these health problems due to formula , my anxiety is just through the roof . I did try breast feed but she wouldn’t latch and pumping was absolutely exhausting. Parents who formula fed their babies can u reassure me ?

Not this again

@AmazingDayz what is the point in your post? Simply to be unkind? Because it’s not informative, nor witty.

Off you pop.

What have you been reading???

FloofCloud · 16/12/2023 15:11

I combi fed mine with amptmil too, they're both fine 😁 I also used Hipps from memory too as Aptamil started being a bit iffy with dissolving it back then (11 years ago tho)

CatLoaf · 16/12/2023 15:12

I'm not really sure how to reassure you, apart from saying my 2 formula fed children are doing fine? They're alive, and don't have diabetes...

MorvernBlack · 16/12/2023 15:22

I'm in my 50s, formula fed, rusk in bottle at 2wks 😮! My Dad was fed cows milk from birth, he's 85 now. I'm fine (touchwood), my Dad not so much, but only because he's 85.
My kids were bf for over a year, because I was lucky enough to get fabulous support, most women aren't, I'd also say I don't have the healthiest of kids despite this.

Please dont feel guilty, your baby will be fine on formula. Most babies are formula fed.

Al991 · 20/12/2023 23:32

We switched to formula at 10 weeks due to latching issues and my baby is SO much happier and healthier. This stuff is not black and white it’s dependent on your situation. After switching I learned my baby had basically been starving and unhappy. She’s now chubby and smiley!

worried about the financial implications of just feeding ready made though. My 4 month old takes 210ml in a bottle. Maybe try different powders?

peskykiddds · 21/12/2023 00:02

I bf my first until 4. FF my second as I had cancer and couldn't bf. Second child much more robust and healthy and happy than first (not related, but just to assure you, they're thriving!). I didn't like FF and would have much preferred bf but bf was also fucking hard work, so swings and roundabouts. It's only a small part of your child's life and after a year you'll see that. Hard to see so early on. Baby will be fine, enjoy it!

I’m mum to a strappingly healthy 23 year old with first class honours and Duke of Edinburgh gold award - a walking advert for formula.

My Aptamil baby is 19, 6' tall & starting university next September.

Formula is one of the most carefully regulated substances in the world. It does not increase the risk of SIDS. It is designed to be a nutritionally complete food for babies.

People will often look at studies which show breastfed babies as a category having a lower risk of SIDS or diabetes than formula fed babies and use that as a basis for saying formula increases the risk of those things. It doesn’t - that’s a misinterpretation of how statistics work.

You can be reassured that your baby is safe and being fed a healthy, safe, nutritious alternative to breastmilk.

MargotBamborough · 21/12/2023 05:54

Formula is food, not poison.

Your baby will most likely spend much of their life eating ultra processed foods with unpronounceable ingredients in. Formula is a damn sight healthier than all that stuff.
