To ask to help me identify this TV show about social services

It must have aired maybe 15 years ago or so. Maybe not even that. It was like a fly on the wall documentary about social services child protection in England somewhere and followed social workers and families they helped. I remember one episode a pregnant addict left her violent boyfriend and she was doing really, really well until she took the baby to his and got drunk. I remember sobbing at it. Trying to tell DH about it but can’t remember the name of it. Pretty sure I haven’t made it up!

Was it 15000 kids and counting ?

Walkacrossthesand · 15/12/2023 23:34

I remember the programme/series, OP, but I can't remember what it was called. It was quite harrowing, following a child protection social worker through her day, seeing families she'd tried so hard to help, they often promised change but couldn't manage/sustain it and were heading towards having the children removed. Very sad.

Protecting our children? I remember it was a BBC programme

Mumof2teens79 · 15/12/2023 23:35

There was also Benefits Street but that was more about families than SW

That’s it!! Thank you. It’s on YouTube too by the looks of it.

Yes @Walkacrossthesand it’s a v sad series, I often think about the addict woman and her baby and how she is now.

I think I remember that one. They followed a couple of families and it was so hard just watching SS try to help them and the families just not keeping it together.

I think I remember this.

There was a woman who wouldn't leave her paedophile boyfriend after the Social Worker went round to deliver the news that the b/f was a risk to her baby.

The (male) social worker was in bits and had to remove the baby in an ill fitting car seat because the risk was so immediate. The mother just watched the child go.

Horrendous.

Yes, there’s also an episode where a poor little boy is living in filth and they ask the parents to clean the bathroom for next time. Which they act like is the most unreasonable request in the world. That child also had no bed IIRC. So sad.

Is that when he takes the baby to his office because he couldn’t wait for the baby to be taken away from this man?

Im going to make DH watch it because clearly I’m a bit of a sadist 🤦🏼‍♀️

I have to say people who are child protection SWs deserve a bloody medal.
