Aaagh…What is this thing in my toilet???

What the hell is this in my toilet? Could it be a roundworm?

For context, I cleaned the loo yesterday with bleach that wasn’t flushed for at least 40 mins so I doubt anything lurking would have survived.

DD did a poo yesterday after it’d been cleaned and the toilet wasn’t flushed straight away and I also did one this morning, flushed straight away.

Do we have worms? Or has it got in somehow through the waste pipe?

Ut is a bit fuzzy when I zoom in but it looks to me like a millipede that has fallen in.

Brahumbug · 15/12/2023 17:27

Has it got legs? In the photo it looks a bit like a meal worm.😁

greencheetah · 15/12/2023 17:31

How old is DD? Can you ask her if she has an itchy bum? Or have a look? That might be weird if she’s 15 😂😂😂

I would be worried it’s a worm 😟

This is not the first time someone has posted a similar picture on MN.

It generally turns out to be ground worms that get in via a cracked waste pipe.

RandomButtons · 15/12/2023 17:33

It’s an earthworm. I’m guessing you have a hole somewhere in you house or plumbing.

She’s 5. I’ll check her now.

The kind of worms that give kids an itchy bum look absolutely nothing like that. The worms that make bums itch and can be seen wriggling around that area are threadworms, which are very small, about a centimetre long, and are white. As the name suggests, like a tiny bit of wiggling white thread. Think a centimetre of dental floss.

They are not massive great slithering bastards like this that suddenly pop up in your loo without warning.

OP, there is no way that this lad has emerged from any of your family's arses and if it had, they'd have seen it straight away It's either an earthworm or some kind of aquatic water worm that's got into a drain or something. If you keep seeing them, then you might want to get a plumber's advice to find out how they're getting in, but it's probably a one-off and you don't need to worry.

Roundworms are pretty rare in the UK; people usually only get them when travelling and drinking contaminated water or eating food that's been washed in dirty water.

Beamur · 15/12/2023 17:43

It's an earthworm

greencheetah · 15/12/2023 17:59

Fair enough. I’m from a tropical country where all the nasties are bigger 😂

margotrose · 15/12/2023 18:01

It's just an earthworm.

The kind that humans get are white and tiny.

CaroleSinger · 15/12/2023 18:03

@FuckityFuckBollocks now to find where the cracked pipe is!!!!!!

ALongHardWinter · 15/12/2023 18:07

Looks like an earthworm. It's definitely not a threadworm that comes out of your bum. They are much smaller and they are white.

Looks like an earthworm. I found one like that on the door frame when I opened the back door this morning.

funnylugs · 16/12/2023 09:05

Like others, this looks like an earthworm. It could have crawled in through the wastepipe, or DD or another family member might have found it in the house and deposited it in the toilet.

VickyEadieofThigh · 16/12/2023 09:08

Just echoing other PPs that this has NOT emerged from the anus of any of your family!

Threadworms, as others have said are white and tiny (I dispute the PP who said they're a cm long - that's gigantic by threadworm standards!).

I’d be worried if something that size fell out of me or my family! It’s probably found it’s way into the toilet some other way. Not what you expect to be faced with when you look into the toilet though!
