Eek. Just read this on DM website. Tescos finest Apple and Cranberry stuffing being recalled due to presence of moths and unfit for human consumption. AIBU to be freaked out by this. Has anybody bought it. I haven't thank goodness.

Food items are recalled all the time. Don't panic.

whisperclip · 13/12/2023 22:55

Ew!

WelshNerd · 13/12/2023 22:57

The special ingredient is moths love!

coldcallerbaiter · 13/12/2023 23:00

but but they are so larva-ly

Testina · 13/12/2023 23:01

Freaked out seems a bit of an over reaction.
Possible presence of moths.
Which I suspect wouldn’t do you any harm to consume anyway.
You know that this can happen simply if a factory find a moth on the floor by one production line - and decide they need to recall just in case of infestation?
This wouldn’t concern me at all.

mottytotty · 13/12/2023 23:29

There is a certain amount of rodent hairs, insects and poo allowed in all food so moths don’t seem too bad.

PamelaParis · 13/12/2023 23:31

You're freaked out because something you haven't even bought has been recalled? Confused

AndThatWasNY · 13/12/2023 23:33

I wouldn't have thought moths were dangerous to eat. Not that I would try!

Alarum · 13/12/2023 23:37

Not pleasant but it’s probably been recalled from an abundance of caution rather than a guarantee that every packet will have a free moth. Recalls happy fairly regularly.

Really? What's the legislation for this?

🤦‍♀️

TwoShades1 · 14/12/2023 08:58

Why are you freaked out? Stuff is recalled all the time. I mean if I had just eaten loads of it, then I might feel a bit gross 🤢

pickledandpuzzled · 14/12/2023 09:05

The ‘allowable’ contaminents in food is a US thing, apparently. One day hair per 100g peanut butter, 10% insect parts in flour and so on.

Eirope doesn’t have the same tolerance.

It’s really not a big deal though- we can cope with quite a lot with no harm done, we’re just a bit squeamish.

It’s pretty wasteful to ditch harmless edible food. Sign of an affluent society.

That made me laugh. But the thought of eating a moth or even a bit of a one. Be better not to know in a way.

If there’s one thing that freaks me out, it’s moths. 🤮

Mirrormeback · 14/12/2023 10:50

Well there's spider legs in chocolate

Mirrormeback · 14/12/2023 10:51

Just general insect parts

Claimm · 14/12/2023 10:54

Reminds me of when Sheldon put moths in Leonard’s food 😂

My cat would bloody love some moth stuffing!

GCAcademic · 14/12/2023 10:58

I have actually inadvertently consumed something with moth caterpillars in it. It gave me an upset stomach. Be warned: do not buy Turkish Delight from the bazaars in Istanbul.

Unearnedincome · 14/12/2023 10:58

It’s moths not anthrax I can’t get too worked up about moths in stuffing that I haven’t even purchased

Made me think of this too 😂

I don't know if all months are edible but Bogong moths are. I couldn't get too worked up about moths in my food.

wite · 14/12/2023 18:09

I'll be livid if they jump out of the oven and start eating all my best clothes.

mogsrus · 14/12/2023 18:26

Why on earth are you freaked out by the news? You didn’t buy any so why even bother to open a thread about it ?
