To go to hospital for this?

I feel really short of breath and I'm starting to panic. I'm pregnant, I've been trying to fall asleep for about 2 hours and I just can't because of the breathlessness. Sitting up was slightly easing it but now it isn't. I think panicking is making me feel worse now but I don't know what to do.

Is this normal? Should I go to the maternity unit?

Please contact your maternity triage for an assessment ASAP. They are there 24/7.

Bergmum · 13/12/2023 00:15

Severe breathlessness can be a symptom of pre eclampsia so got get yourself checked out.

IHateLegDay · 13/12/2023 00:15

Go now. I hope you're ok.

lf4 · 13/12/2023 00:16

This could just be hormonal due to the pregnancy and nothing to worry about, or could be pre eclampsia. It's not worth the risk so go and get checked

Autumnleaves89 · 13/12/2023 00:22

Hey OP. Call maternity triage for advice. I’m sure they’ll want you to get checked over, whether at maternity unit or A&E. take care x

For someone to say your fine???

Just ring / go in !

NightmareGirl · 13/12/2023 00:42

Is there a wheeze in your chest ?

NightmareGirl · 13/12/2023 00:50

I’ve gone from being really breathless to hardly being able to breathe in a short space of time. I think I could have died. Get medical attention ASAP

nocoolnamesleft · 13/12/2023 00:55

Definitely hospital to get checked out. Being pregnant, for instance, makes you more vulnerable to a blood clot on your lungs.

Weddingblues23 · 13/12/2023 01:17

Sounds like you should get checked out, but calming down will also help. Take some long, slow breaths, focusing on breathing all the way in and emptying your lungs completely. Lots of scary words and conditions below, but most likely it is none of those things, so try to stay calm. Most likely it is just baby shoving their little bum into your lungs, it can make it feel really hard to catch your breath.
