I'm in Kent - we currently do not get post regularly at all (once a fortnight maybe) in my area except tracked parcels 🤔

Mothership4two · 11/12/2023 16:31

Someone sent us a birthday card (1st class) and a Christmas card (2nd class) posted on the same day and it took them five days to arrive and they were delivered on the same day too.

We live in the South (England) and post is patchy atm.

Sirzy · 11/12/2023 16:31

I’m in Lancashire. We get post about once every 3 weeks at the moment

WildFlowerBees · 11/12/2023 16:35

I believe RM are prioritising signed for mail and parcels. We get nothing for about 2 weeks then a glut of post. I'm sure I read that RM have been fined. For the amount they're paying in fines they could've taken on temporary staff. Our local sorting office has sacks of post not yet looked at. It's so frustrating.

scrimpton · 11/12/2023 16:37

I realised the other day that I'm not receiving post regularly. Letters will arrive in a bunch every 1-2 weeks.

Kind of annoying as I'm waiting for a few letters.

toooldtobeamum · 11/12/2023 16:39

I ordered something from Etsy on 8/12/23 and it was delivered today 2nd class postage which was a surprise.

goldierocks · 11/12/2023 16:44

South East (Essex). The Royal Mail service here has been awful for months.

I received two 1st class recorded delivery letters today, (11th December) that were posted to me on 1st December.

This is not unusual. If I'd been well, I would have walked up to the delivery office to collect them myself. I used to get post every day, now it's once per week if I'm lucky.

Complaints go nowhere; Royal Mail say they have 'investigated' and have been unable to identify any reasons why the service in my town has become so awful.

Last posting day for 1st class mail is apparently 20th Dec (21st for Special Delivery), but I'd aim for the next couple of days if you really want something to arrive in time.

Good luck!

LBFseBrom · 11/12/2023 16:57

As far as I can tell, a day or two longer than normal at the moment.

existentialpain · 11/12/2023 16:59

Around a fortnight for first class.

Haven't even attempted using second as first class is so bad

pinklemonata · 11/12/2023 17:00

Down South to Scotland first class was delivered the next day Smile Second class in the same Borough took 2 days.

RedToothBrush · 11/12/2023 17:00

Royal Mail are prioritising parcels in our area due to a shortage of postmen so we are hardly getting any mail at all. We certainly aren't getting it daily.

Last week on the 6th we received a hospital appointment letter sent on 20th November.

We are fortunate. The appointment is next week but I have been hearing of people getting similar letters AFTER the appointment.

Sagedragon · 11/12/2023 17:16

We're in Cheshire and only getting mail once a week dues to staffing issues at our local delivery office. Today got mail dated 30th November.

salamirose · 11/12/2023 17:17

Parcels fine. Letters 4 days for 2nd class haven't tried 1st

Keilagh · 11/12/2023 17:20

No delays where I am. I order everything first class and it still comes within 2 days.

Pemba · 11/12/2023 17:29

In this town we moved to last year we seem to get very little post, maybe once a week. DM posted me a Christmas card to here last year, never arrived.

I paid for a Royal Mail redirection from the previous area, hardly anything came through. Hopefully that's because I have updated most companies and people with our new address... It wasn't cheap either, about £78 a year. Waste of money really.

MarisPiper92 · 11/12/2023 17:36

South London. Parcels are fine, but like a PP I'm getting a bundle of letters once or twice a week.

Dreamqueen · 11/12/2023 17:47

I sell on Etsy. I posted a large letter first class signed for on 17 november, It was delivered today. I was just about to do a refund to my customer. The Royal Mail service at the moment is terrible.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 11/12/2023 18:08

Sheffield. We get a bundle every 10 days or so. Whats the point of 2nd and 1st class? They all arrive whenever.

Parcels arrive fast tho. Might start sending letters as parcels🤔

Onthegrid · 11/12/2023 18:10

I see the postie every day here, and the birthday cards for November arrived roughly on time as does the junk mail and some letters from DVLA. However, I have yet to have a Christmas card, this is highly unusual, unless all our friends and relatives have decided not to send this year.
I am seriously considering not writing ours but I think DH will insist

Paperwhiteflowers · 11/12/2023 18:29

Central London. Appalling service. It actually galls me that the cost of stamps is so high and the service so poor.

VickyEadieofThigh · 11/12/2023 18:31

Sent a parcel to London, second class from here (East Yorkshire) to London, just over a week ago

It arrived the very next day.

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 11/12/2023 18:32

Like many others we are getting a bundle about once a week. First class, second class, junk mail and today a card from Europe, all in the same bundle.

Our local fb group has asked people not to get cross with the actual postmen and women, they are doing their best in very difficult circumstances.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 11/12/2023 18:36

I posted 2 large letters last Monday, second class

one arrived last Tuesday and the other last Wednesday.

Bluevelvetsofa · 11/12/2023 19:40

Ours is very erratic. I posted a card on 1st September, for a birthday on 7th. It arrived three weeks later.

We get a bunch of post about once a fortnight. It’s not the postie’s fault, he’s lovely, but they’re so short staffed and prioritise parcels.
