To expect venues to deal with smokers?

Do venues have to deal with smokers, smoking where they shouldn't?

At a hotel event last night. People were smoking outside, but right next to the doors (which had no smoking signs on!) so smoke drifted into the lobby
Which is where the toilets were!
And later in the evening, into the event itself in a small way

So going to the loo, you got cigarette smoke, plus leaving the event meant going thru a group of smokers

I don't understand really why the smokers couldn't stand a few feet to the side, it must've been obvious that cigarette smoke was blowing inside.

But I am wondering if venues have to deal with it, given it would be illegal for them to smoke inside?

@Tilllly

I totally agree,

ive have quite often find Smokers can be inconsiderate at times,
but suspose that's the essence of what addiction does to you,

Couldn't care less they have to stand outside in the miserable 🥶 freezing cold wet weather at times too.

Venues can ask but you quite often get met with aggression so people often don’t

That's what I thought - so didn't want to ask them to move a bit myself!!

It's not illegal to smoke outside where there is a no smoking sign - just against the policy of the venue - so the venue staff aren't under any legal obligation to do anything. It would be different, of course, if people were smoking inside.

Ah right

So I suppose most venues won't address it, as understandably, they won't want to alienate customers

But it is frustrating when it drifts inside
