to think soap shouldn't stain?

genuinely want to know before i complain.
we recently had a new bathroom fitted. We had initial consultation and design where they recommended certain products.
We had a 'seat' installed which we use to keep bottles etc on and I use to shave my legs . The top of it is a type of stone ledge thing.
Just noticed today a bar of soap we'd left on there has stained it. Now yes, we picked it etc but they are meant to be the experts - we don't know what we don't know - AIBU to think they could have mentioned this?
If we had left a leaky bottle of bleach on it then I'd think IABU but a normal bar of soap???
As an aside, anyone got any tips for cleaning it? (I'm going to ask them that too)

off out now but will read replies later, thanks for any help / opinions (unless I come back to find I've been flamed in which case you are all a vest of snipers!)

StealthPolarBear · 14/03/2008 15:17

We have a weird stone fire place that gets coffee stains etc on it (the coasters have been chewed/ hidden etc) Bit of spray bleach brings them up a treat. Cif doesn't work....

StealthPolarBear · 14/03/2008 15:24

oooh think I'd better see what they say, if I bleach it without them saying so then I won't have a leg to stand on!

hazard of posh bathrooms

but they should have told you

lots of types of stone are porous
(saw in a house mag this week a bathroom with green marble bits that they have to oil every week and should 'eventually become waterproof')

Indith · 17/03/2008 09:07

You slattern you, dontcha know that with a posh bathroom you should have a soap tray?

Honestly posh bathroomed people these days just aren't what they used to be

(Hope they have a magic answer for you and it goes away!)

I'm just because my bathroom has damp, flaking paint and an overflowing nappy bucket.

StealthPolarBear · 17/03/2008 10:26

please please please come and see our house
decorating and everywhere a mess
only about 3 rooms are usable, our bedrrom and T's bedroom not included!
Is W better now?

StealthPolarBear · 17/03/2008 10:27

you call me a slattern! Empty that nappy bin! (And come and do ours while you're on, just mind you don't trip over the million boxes and dismantled cot in that room )

For anyone who finds this thread and realises they have exactly the same problem then I should probably say that the marks are fading quite quickly, I think as the shower water hits them. The stone isn't a uniform colour which helps. So I am slightly less and am not going to write my strongly worded letter!

lol, nappy wash done but still in the machine as all airers still in use!

3 usable rooms sounds pretty good, not that I've ever been let loose on a house to decorate, or even furnish. I do still have boxes that have not been unpacked after the last move though, and now can't be arsed as I know we'll move again.

W did get better, was happiest baby in the world but ear never quite stopped oozing and am now back to getting sofa sores cuddling a poorly baby Dr later though.

StealthPolarBear · 17/03/2008 13:53

oh no! is it definitely an ear infection? it's gone on for ages! poor w

if the goo poring out of his ear and matting in his hair is anything to go by! He is fast asleep on me right now and I need to leave to go to the Dr in a few mins, seems so unfair to wake him!

How is T? Did you try the gym thing?

StealthPolarBear · 17/03/2008 17:58

He's fine, we didn't in the end, at the time he was still sleeping really badly (recovering from his cold) and so I had no energy at all!
Hope w's ear clears up soon. Fancy another meet up in the next coupld of months with SS again?
