Anybody awake? Getting myself worried about stomach pain

Have posted about this a couple of days ago. At the weekend I started getting a bad pain in my left side when I tried to open my bowels. For about three days I was unable to pass any stools at all but that has since stopped. The pain is still there when I go to the toilet though. I saw the Gp yesterday who thought it may be kidney or bowel related but said I had no sign of blood in my urine and no temp so it was probably fine. She's sending me for blood tests next week though just to be sure.

Since last night though it's now become extremely painful when I pee as well. The pain starts from about half way between my ribs and hip. It's directly on the side of my body not on my tummy, it then goes down to just above and over my hip towards my groin.

I don't think it's a uti or anything like that because it's not painful to pee in terms of hurting coming out it's just the pain in my side is incredibly painful and I'm feeling like I'm having to push to pee.

It's almost impossible to try and pass a bowel movement now because of the pain. I don't know if I should call the Gp again today because I only saw them yesterday but the pain seems to be getting much worse and now I'm getting really worried!

Anybody had anything similar?

You sound blocked up in polite terms. I suffer with absolutely horrid pain with I get this down to my ibd. You need some laxatives or stool softener. It won’t pass on its own. I take a cup of tea or orange juice and sit in the bath no idea why it relaxes me and I always seem to go after that.

Andthereyougo · 08/12/2023 06:00

Try something high fibre , see if that helps. If you prefer something like fibro gel or a laxative speak to the pharmacist.
Also as pp said a hot bath helps or just a hot water bottle on your stomach.

severe constipation

contactus · 08/12/2023 06:00

when was the last time you emptied your bowels?

you could have an impaction

goodnessgraciousannie · 08/12/2023 06:03

The thing is I've been able to empty my bowels for the last two days so I don't think it's constipation, my stools are also not hard like they normally would be with constipation. But the pain hasn't got any better

You can buy sodium picosulfate (dulcolax i believe is the brand name) and that will definitely clear what sounds like nasty constipation as I suffer with it. Once the blockage has passed maybe try using sachets of movicol daily, I get it on prescription but have seen people purchase it. My ibs was bad in my 20’s then settled for about 10 years then came back. I don’t think ibs would show on a blood test. I find eggs are the worst for me. Hope you get it sorted and maybe discuss with gp first but it does sound like impaction

As a HCP I would advise you to get back in touch with your GP or call 111, don't take advice from unqualified people on the internet.

PainterInPeril · 08/12/2023 06:12

@goodnessgraciousannie Believe it or not, it's perfectly possible to poop regularly and still be constipated! It can be agonizing but not necessarily anything to worry about. I hope you manage to get it sorted out and feel better soon. 🤗💐

You can still pass stools while you’re constipated trust me I’m a frequent visitor with mjne to hospital. You need laxatives. Can you see a doctor today or make a trip to a&e you don’t want it to get worse

Yes, indeed, you should go back to the GP and not take advice from unqualified people on the internet, as a former RGN myself, I concur with this statement.

endofthelinefinally · 08/12/2023 07:03

You need to be examined by a doctor. Do not take laxatives with undiagnosed abdominal pain. Nobody can diagnose over the internet. I am a retired nurse and I would advise calling 111, or if the pain is increasing, A and E.

Jayinthetub · 08/12/2023 07:29

I agree you need to see your GP but just wanted to share I had something very similar to what you're describing and a colonoscopy diagnosed diverticula disease (diverticulosis).

My pain is all left side but starts with a feeling almost like a UTI and normally lasts several days. Not able to empty my bowels when I have a flare up although feel like I need to all the time just like you describe. Paracetamol helps me with the pain when I have a bout and generally knowing what it is also makes me feel better somehow!

I can manage it all much better now I know what I'm dealing with. Hope you get a resolution soon Flowers

Jinglingallthewaytochristmas · 08/12/2023 07:31

It could be constipation with overflow or some thing else else. Either way you need to go and see your GP.

Beseen22 · 08/12/2023 07:36

If it was me I'd call GP first thing. I'd be very surprised if you weren't referred up to get checked out, especially on a Friday. Have you had any temperature?

CherryogDog · 08/12/2023 07:45

I have diverticular disease like @Jayinthetub , and agree your symptoms are similar. I also get horrific pain in my back when I'm having a bad flare up.
Hope you feel better soon @goodnessgraciousannie, it can be scarey when you've got unexplained pain 🌺
