Getting girls into sport is great but boys need sport too

So I totally understand we need to get more girls into.sport. I support that 100% but at my kids primary school they currently ONLY offer the free sports clubs to girls. So girls currently have a rugby club, a football club and a netball club. This is brilliant. But the only (sports) club the boys are allowed to.join (with the girls) is cross country. And that's only for the first half of autumn term. They do have paid clubs available after school on the school grounds that are for boys and girls but NOTHING for free.
I think this seems counter intuitive if we're trying to teach boys (particularly) to grow up to be feminists. AIBU?

That's so odd! Have you spoken to the school about it?

Rouleur · 07/12/2023 09:13

Have you reminded them of their responsibilities under the Equality Act? What did they say?

Seems odd and never been my experience but maybe just the way it's worked out
The staff trying to make up for the boys paid club variety?
Boys clubs available outside school?

In my experience boys tend to be football focused and at primary age/in most other sports girls out number boys.....but the boys do still tend to dominate sessions and intimidate girls.
Maybe staff found if boys were allowed girls dropped out.

That has literally nothing to do with “teaching boys to be feminists” 😅

It’s a weird policy for sure, but there’s no need to be harrumphing about feminism.

Similar at our school. Girls football, and girls rugby no equivalent club for boys. Girls also have netball.

Our boys play football with a club outside school, but it did annoy me a bit when the sports clubs came out this term.
