They keep advertising it to you because you keep looking at it. Mumsnet have no idea what ads are being shown to you, it’s all down to your browsing history.

WonkyBricks · 05/12/2023 21:44

That is disgusting 🤣

I'd agree except I've never looked at such a thing in my life.. I'm certainly not clicking on the link goodness knows what else I'd find

No they don’t!

I’ve never bloody looked at that thing, but it pops up
all the time. What website is it on? I’m pretty sure I’ve never been on a website with some mock beer belly on it!

Borborygmus · 05/12/2023 22:06

I've just had to Google it, as it wasn't remotely obvious what it actually was!

EmiliaRuusuvuori · 05/12/2023 22:07

I saw that last week in The Range, it looked absolutely disgusting.

RafaistheKingofClay · 05/12/2023 22:08

It’s Temu I think. That and the fluffy tarmigrade

ssd · 05/12/2023 22:12

Bloody temu is everywhere

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/12/2023 22:13

I don't like that thing pictured above either. It must be a random ad as I've never looked at that website or anything comparable to that ... thing. Not going to use any words to describe it for fear of what Google Analytics would push my way as a consequence.

Still better than the shapeless slime- and mud-coloured sacks I was shown for weeks and weeks after posting a similar image as a joke.

On a related note, I've been interested to see that Google has a long memory and a calendar. Around Christmas time last year I looked at a few sites that sell top quality beef. I had no intention of buying any, I just wondered what it cost. Google was delighted by this and showed me lots and lots of unsolicited pictures of raw meat in January and February. Now we approach the anniversary of that ill-advised search, they're starting to creep back in again.

NotTerfNorCis · 05/12/2023 22:15

I keep seeing this advert on different sites. Also no interest in hairy plastic beer bellies.

SoupDragon · 05/12/2023 22:18

That triangle in the top corner means it's not a Mumsnet ad.

PartOfTheFurniture12 · 05/12/2023 22:21

Solidarity, I had that exact ad first this morning and it took me a minute to figure out what the hell I was looking at. 😂 I think Mumsnet only agree to host ads in general though, they don't control what ads are actually being shown. Clearly Temu have money to burn, I can't seem to escape their ads for cheap tat these days.

user1471462634 · 05/12/2023 22:42

I knew it would be that, same with me. There are some odd things on there.....

SisterMichaelsHabit · 05/12/2023 22:51

It's Temu, a site selling imported Chinese tat using fake sales and other dubious selling practices. MN have been asked to block Temu ads a few times this year. IDK what came of that or whether they just can't as they're part of the Google ads network.

And no, it's likely nothing to do with your browsing history, that advertising model is still used by some companies, but overall is fairly rare these days, times have moved on. Google ads serve up the ads targeting the people Temu tell them to target. Temu set the targets. You don't ever have to have browsed for that shyte to get it advertised to you if they're targeting some characteristic you do have, and at it's simplest and least-targeted, they could have just targeted your (assumed) sex and IP location (UK).

It's also worth noting that advertisers on the Google Ad network don't necessarily have control over which products Google displays if they're using a specific type of ad which is really popular at the moment because it's mostly an automated ad that people need to put very little effort into setting up (PMax, if you're interested).

listsandbudgets · 06/12/2023 09:03

Now worrying what characteristics google has detected about me that makes it think I'd like a "belly bum bag"

I don't think I've ever even looked at the Temu site as I'd refuse to use them because of their probable links with forced labour by Uyghur Muslims held in camps

I see this disgusting ad all the time and I have never in my life clicked on a Temu link and would never buy anything from them for loads of reasons. So bored of seeing it flash up and it's now putting me off using MN, wish they could do something about it.

Had to revisit this 😂
