To tell supermarket the delivery driver stank of weed?

Have a weekly food shop delivered. This morning I had three missed phone calls an hour before the start of the delivery slot time. I rang back and it was the delivery driver claiming he had buzzed the flat twice but no one picked up.
The intercom didn't ring (it works).

Then the driver insisted I go and meet him outside. Fine no worries. I arrived and he absolutely stank of weed. He was mumbling on about things. He tried to give me some items not in my food shop and then insisted they were mine. After 5 minutes of discussion he decided he would take them back to the van. Lots of my shopping was crushed like it had been dropped.

I then received a call from him again asked if I had ordered the items. I had already shown him my order list and they weren't on there.

Then half an hour later I received another call, which I ignored. Then another call 10 minutes later, followed by a text saying "Mate let me me know when you ready".

Now he could obviously have just been in a muddle. But would I be unreasonable to tell the supermarket the driver was strange/stank of weed?

Absolutely, and I'd be telling them I'm reporting him to police for suspected drug driving as well. Then report online to 101.

Not for the weed but for the other stuff yeah

LightDrizzle · 01/12/2023 12:45

Sounds like he wasn’t fit to drive. I’d definitely report and include your call log if possible.

SALWARP2023 · 01/12/2023 12:46

Taking any type of drugs before or during work is a real no no. Report him immediately. He chose to get involved in smoking drugs he should face his fate.

WTAF ? Report to police and get it logged. Also with Asda for the weed and your damaged shopping.

You should tell them because your items were delivered in bad condition and he’s clearly not safe on the road.

Of course you should leave feedback with the company at the very least, detailing everything you wrote here.

Our regular bike courier in London used to arrive at our reception desk, sit on the chair and drink from a bottle of coke with spirits in it (no idea which spirit, I just knew it smelled very alcoholic).
He was actually in a bad accident and was in hospital for ages, I really regret not reporting him because I knew he was dangerous on the road, I just didn't want to be a shit stirrer.

@welcometothnuthouse Do you think the police are going to log someone smelling of drugs in their wee book?
I'm guessing you don't live in a city

Actually, yes. I'm an ex copper and ex police call hander. That's exactly the kind of call the log. It can be used as intelligence about a problem. It's unlikely they'll go to the company to take action, but intelligence builds a picture. A number of calls about this chap to his employer might also see them call the police in to drug test him if he's been driving. That's not unusual.

I'm thrilled to hear the police take it so seriously where you live because in my area personal weed use is basically decriminalised.

SoddingWeddings · 01/12/2023 13:49

@EauNeu theres a huge difference between personal use - which is indeed barely criminalised, especially in your own home and drug driving.
