to think I must be an utterly banal and forgettable human.... [light-hearted]

Every year, DP and I get a Christmas card from one of DP's aunts addressed to "John and wife". We've been together 17 years, married for 10.

We also get a card from another aunt/uncle addressed to "John and Jane". My name's not Jane. DP's SIL (DP's brother's wife) is Jane. BIL and SIL's card is correctly addressed to "Jane".

DP's gran also sends us an incorrectly addressed card. This one is to "John and Claire". My name's not Claire or anywhere close to Claire. There are no Claires in DP's family.

I'm starting to think I must just be an incredibly forgettable person 😂
Do you think an impromptu, table-top rendition of "That's not my name" by The Ting Tings at the next family gathering might help the situation?

Yours, a loving Wife possibly called Jane or maybe Claire.

I'd send cards back from John and Wife/Claire/Jane/Actual name (same thing on each card).

Ha, great idea!

DP doesn't actually send cards to the aunts/uncle - the "Wife" and "Jane" people.
He does to his gran, always with my actual name on it.

I am genuinely very forgettable. Just this morning I saw someone I'd known at the same stables as me for two whole years and was the farrier for my horses who didn't really recognise me until a mutual acquaintance turned up.

A neighbour (we live in a hamlet of 50 people) has asked me three separate times if I've lived here long as he doesn't recognise (although he knows he's seen our dog with my DH ...).

There are people at work who I've been introduced to at least a dozen times over the last 10 years - every time they act like it's the first!

My friends joke it's my cloak of invisibility. I just roll with it - the upside is I rarely get accosted by people I want to avoid while at Tesco's 😆
