Northern Ireland is part of the UK, you do not need a passport. Photo ID will be fine.

miniegg3 · 30/11/2023 09:16

I wasn't asked for my passport or any ID when I flew.. Still take ID anyway though

ClaireB0205 · 30/11/2023 09:19

You can definitely fly or get a boat to N.Ireland using your driving licence, I do it all the time. I would be surprised if anyone asks for ID on the boat. For flights within UK you need photographic ID, so your driving licence will be fine. Hope you have a lovely trip! xx

I’ve got the ferry many times from Scotland to Belfast. Never ever needed any ID let alone a passport.

HairyFarnbarn · 30/11/2023 10:40

Same from England, never been asked for ID

ntmdino · 30/11/2023 10:44

For what it's worth, I flew to Belfast recently - used my passport on the way out, tried it with my driving licence on the way back and both were sufficient.

SisterMichaelsHabit · 30/11/2023 10:47

I've never been asked for ID on the ferry, even since Brexit (when theoretically they were going to start doing checks), usually they just want your ferry boarding pass but a provisional licence is also fine for domestic travel if required as it is a valid government-issued photo ID.

It's an amazing, fun and really exciting place to visit BTW and you will have a grand time. And going by ferry is the best way because then you've your own car for travelling around (and there's so much to see and do).

DownNative · 30/11/2023 10:48

Yes, you can. I go home on the ferry often have never been asked for ID.

Driving home for my first Christmas back home in 21 years this year!

NImumconfused · 30/11/2023 10:49

Driving licence is fine to fly with, you'll not get asked for ID on the ferry.

Generally need photo ID on a flight if you are taking checked baggage but not otherwise. Flew to Belfast 2 weeks ago (from Gatwick with easyJet if relevant) hand luggage only and no id checked

moondust11 · 30/11/2023 12:23

Ah amazing thanks so much everyone so excited now! X

Enjoy, I really loved Belfast!

DownNative · 30/11/2023 18:31

@moondust11 enjoy my home capital of Belfast! You'll see the massive silver seahorse sculpture on the Dargan Road as you get off the ferry. The seahorse is a symbol of Belfast's maritime history.

And, of course, our iconic Samson and Goliath yellow cranes! Belfast isn't Belfast without them!

Have cash if you are getting the bus. A lot of the bus drivers are arseholes.
