To ask how you get Christmas lights around windows to stay put?

Just that, I use Sellotape to tape them around the windows, but as soon as it condensates or gets cold, they end up falling down. How do other people install lights around windows?

@HydrateYourself01 Could you use suction hooks instead? They sell them in Home Bargains really cheap

IvorTheEngineDriver · 29/11/2023 12:31

Electrical insulating tape works for us. We use red coloured tape to be "festive".

TheChosenTwo · 29/11/2023 12:32

I think dh sticks up some sticky suction hook things around the frames but they’re behind shutters so we don’t have to see them being ugly 😂

HydrateYourself01 · 29/11/2023 12:33

Suction hooks!!! Why did I not think of that!! Thanks so much, will order some now!

We usually use drawing pins and drape them through the louvre blinds. Not much help if you've got PVC windows and no blinds...

tootyflooty · 29/11/2023 12:36

command hooks, I use the small clear ones and attach them to the upvc frame, my window curtain lights stay up all year ( lazy I know), but the lights have stayed put for the last two years, just the odd one needs replacing, but they also don't mark the frame like sticky tape does.

SeaToSki · 29/11/2023 12:39

Command adhesive see through cable hook thingies, my hooks stay up year round and I just clip the lights back into them at Christmas time. If you buy the clear ones, the sticky patches are clear too so they are pretty invisible. Just make sure the surface is clean and dry before you stick them and give it a good push and 10 mins to dry before you hang anything on them

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 29/11/2023 12:41

Are we talking about external lights? Cellotape did work for me last yr so I'm hoping it works again!

Kittybelle123 · 29/11/2023 12:41

Another vote for Command hooks - the small see through ones are excellent for this.

NannyGythaOgg · 29/11/2023 14:14

I use these. They are transparent so practically invisible when up and can be left in place (with or without lights in situ) all year round.

You can get suction cups with air tubing holders on them, for fish tanks. They work really well

I've done Nano tape this year and it sticks extremely well.

piscofrisco · 29/11/2023 15:16

Command hooks

Thank you for this suggestion. I've just ordered a pack and hopefully I'll have better success with them than I do the command hooks. Mine do stick (if I prep properly) but the sticky back goes hard and yellows after a few months and then they fall off. The reviews say to soak the suckers in hot water to soften them and help them stick better so I will do that.

ChildOfTheMoon · 29/11/2023 16:32

I found suction hooks useless. They keep coming off . I bought some clear double sided sticky tape

Fidgety31 · 29/11/2023 17:27

I use the black gorilla / duct tape . It’s weatherproof

shellyleppard · 29/11/2023 17:32

Use a drop of washing up liquid instead of water.....mine have been up for three years now x

Andthereyougo · 29/11/2023 18:41

Command hooks, the small ones. You can change the orientation of the hook to suit sides, top of windows and they peel off easily afterwards.

onwardandupwards · 29/11/2023 18:42

Gorilla tape!
