Are you asking if your su and sh are related to things going on in your life, rather than a mental health illness?

I think su and sh aren’t reasonable ways to react to stress, so in that sense it would be considered part of a mental health issue. Could be depression which can diagnosed even if the depression is as a result of external factors. Please reach out for help, you deserve all the help you need.

Reacting to things going wrong by trying to take your own life or self-harming is, in itself, an indication of mental illness or perhaps a personality disorder. It's not a proportionate response to adversity. If it was, everyone would be doing it, but most people never do, regardless of what's happening in their lives.

Mental illness can be triggered by something, and it can also be exacerbated by something. PTSD is a mental illness, for example, which is directly caused by something the sufferer has experienced in the past and then re-triggered by things that remind them of it. Clinical anxiety/depression may often have no obvious 'cause' but can be made worse by difficult situations - for example, I think most people who suffer from depression have had the experience of feeling worse than usual when something bad happens.
