I am a lodger at someone’s house for a few days a week in a different city for work. My own home is in another city. I’ve just arrived back from work to find a big smear of poo on the floor and a bit on the wall in the bathroom.

What the heck?? I’ve only been here three weeks. There are two people in the house - the landlady and another lodger I’ve met once.

What do I do? Bemused to be honest. I hardly know these people. There is also a cat but I’m not sure cats can go on the wall?

Do you need to do anything?

I suspect it’s the cat.

panca · 22/11/2023 21:42

Tell the landlady

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 22/11/2023 21:43

I stood in some at my grandparents house when I was a kid. It was cold. I was barefoot.

SapphireBracelet · 22/11/2023 21:43

Cat for sure. Or young child ?

CaramacFiend · 22/11/2023 21:43

I'd be surprised if it was the cat.

Concernz · 22/11/2023 21:44

I should add it’s meant to be my private bathroom. The landlady has her own bathroom and the other lodger uses that one (mostly).

Is it a shared bathroom? I'd tell landlady, no way I'd be clearing that up but I wouldn't want others to think I'd done it.

Concernz · 22/11/2023 21:44

I’ve never owned a cat so not sure if cats would do this kind of thing

My friends cat poos everywhere when distressed about something. After a bereavement it kept doing it for a year.

SapphireBracelet · 22/11/2023 21:47

Cat could have got in through the window.

I did have poo all over my bathroom floor once in a pool of sewage. Turns out I had rats under my flooring and they had eaten through the waste pipe. Euwww!

Concernz · 22/11/2023 21:47

Can upload a picture if that would settle the debate as to whether it’s the cat or not.

God I am embarrassed to tell the landlady. She’s not very well at present.

Oh yikes. No picture please!! I think you will have to tell the Landlady. If you pay for a room with a private bathroom then it shouldn’t be used while you aren’t there, or it should be cleaned before you arrive.

Finteq · 22/11/2023 21:51

No pics please!

SgtJuneAckland · 22/11/2023 21:52

I think you need to take a photo and tell her, just say I'm not sure if the cat's not well but there's faeces all over my bathroom.
I have had cats all my life and I'd be surprised if one has smeared shit across a wall

Concernz · 22/11/2023 21:53

It’s smeared on the floor and there is a small lump on the wall. Not smeared on the wall (if that makes a difference!).

Catsandcuddles · 22/11/2023 21:58

Cat poo is usually quite distinct, but if you've never had one you wouldn't know. My cat got poo on the wall once when he missed the tray (as a kitten) so I suppose it could happen, especially if it is just stuck to the wall, and not smeared.

RosaMoline · 22/11/2023 22:10

Didn’t happen. Reported.
