To find it ridiculous how people stand for photos these days

I’m sure this makes me an old dinosaur but I just want to scream STAND PROPERLY when I see (mostly) women standing in the most ridiculous contorted poses for photos.

you must spend your life pissed off with so much in the world!

Motherhubbardscupboard · 22/11/2023 08:04

Yes! I always think they will look back in 20 years time and wonder what on earth they were doing

AddGif · 22/11/2023 08:07

My teen girl and her friends always have their mouths open in this weird faux-surprised look. Better than the tongue-sticking out phase I guess.

I will tolerate it until she is 20. Then it should be illegal ;-)

Don’t get me started on those ridiculous inflated lips

This just made me think of when people pose for photos when they don't smile and so look a bit moody.
My 10 year old child isn't like this but her friend sent her a photo doing this.
My child sent back 'you look a bit sad are you ok'
Her friend to yes why wouldn't I be.
My child didn't get it bless her 🤣 it did make me smile

IglesiasPiggl · 22/11/2023 08:11

I find that "one foot forward, slightly angled" pose so tedious. As a PP said, I'm sure people will look back on this phase and have a good old laugh!

Mindymomo · 22/11/2023 08:12

I think the same, I do have a laugh though when I see a young person take a selfie, I’d love to say just look and stand naturally.

Tbh I don't mind current photo trends - better than the sour faced straight laced photos of the past! I quite enjoy being able to date photos based on how many tongues / peace signs / hand signals I can see.

God yeah.

The tongue stuck out was awful. I could just about tolerate it from children but when I saw actual grown women do it? I mean get a grip.

TrousersAndPotato · 22/11/2023 08:14

It's the standing like they need a wee pose that makes me chuckle!

Morningbreak · 22/11/2023 08:15

Yes. Instead of looking happy in photos, it’s this hyper-sexualised, ‘provocative’ porny sort of look. I can’t see how this is a change for the better

PinkflowersWhiteBerries · 22/11/2023 08:16

To be fair the ‘ one foot forward, slight angle, look up to the camera’ is not new, nor is it the preserve of the young.

My MIL perfected that pose for my wedding photos 30+ years ago, as she wanted to look thinner. Something like a Hartnell model from the 50s.

KimberleyClark · 22/11/2023 08:16

People are so hyper aware of what their most flattering angles are that there’s no such thing as a natural photo. Virtually everything you see on SM is a third or fourth take. What gets me is those wide mouthed laughing smiles with all teeth showing. I look insane when I do that.

50+ years ago the coolest girl in our school always used to stand like this. All us other girls used to emulate the pose in a desperate bid to look as cool as her 😎 😄 😀

Discwriter · 22/11/2023 08:29

I do laugh at photos from decades ago so think it's only fair we provide the same future entertainment.

wildwestpioneer · 22/11/2023 08:43

Yes op I feel the same. I have a teen dd and I've only got a handful of natural photos of her.

And whilst we're at it, there seems to be no embarrassment in taking photos of yourself. Started with the selfie stick but the amount of (usually girls) people I see on their own happily pulling faces into a camera taking numerous photos of themselves
