Just that really! Is there a period of 3-6 months when you cannot claim?

It's in the terms and conditions of each policy - but yes, there will be a specified time.

You need to read your terms and conditions

Every policy will have its own terms

I work in PMI, it depends on your policy underwriting and when your symptoms started.

If you are MHD - medical history disregarded, you can claim straight away if the illness is covered.

If you are underwritten and your symptoms started before the policy, then you can’t usually claim. If your symptoms started after the policy then you will need to give history and onset details of when your symptoms started.

What company are you with? What is your underwriting?

If you're thinking of joining so you can use it, then I think you're on to a loser as prediagnosed conditions are often excluded.

If you started last week and your symptoms started yesterday, then you should be fine.

It depends on what you are claiming for. If it’s something you already had (and they will ask GP) then they won’t cover it at all.

Thanks all. I'm thinking of applying for medical insurance but I've had a rash on my bust that might be Paget's disease (or equally might not!) for a while now and having looked into the details of some health insurance policies, it looks as though they might cover after a fortnight as long as it's not a known (by the GP) medical condition?

Hey OP sorry to hear you’ve got some symptoms that are worrying you. It doesn’t sound likely that a health insurance policy would cover you unless you lied about when your symptoms started.
Yes it might not be known by the GP but the insurer will ask you if you have any symptoms when you sign or or claim and you’ll have to say that a) you have no symptoms when you sign up and b) your symptoms started after your policy started when you claim.

You also may need to lie to your GP if you need a referral as the insurer may need a GP referral.

Which policy have you seen that says after two weeks you can claim?

Maybe get yourself to the GP if possible, they may see you or refer you sooner than you think and put your mind at ease.
