To feel self-conscious that my hands are too big for a ring?

So I got my ring size today; I’ve never worn them as I have long fingers and was always thinking my hands were too big. The only one that went on me was a size Q, and it wasn’t comfortable. Had to wiggle it off over the knuckle. So I’ll have to get custom made one if I’m getting a ring, but that limits options. I feel so crap hearing that the largest women’s size
doesn’t fit me. It’s made me feel even more like
I have manly hands!

Q is not that big? I'm an O and I've got smallish hands.

Try another shop. I have a lovely women's ring in a Z!

Lis1992 · 18/11/2023 14:59

The lady in the shop was like oh that’s our last women’s size.. and I just felt so embarrassed 🙈

@KaiserChefs Oh thanks so much! I’m in Ireland. I’ll check it out though. I’ve always had a thing about my hands and feel like today reinforced that they aren’t feminine or something! Someone said to me once it’s not masculine, it is elegant to have long fingers. But I still feel it!

@Lis1992 Ah, how far north are you? Some UK jewellery shops do click and collect. I actually used to live in Ireland a while back. I got a nice eternity ring from H Samuel UK and I did a click and collect and picked it up in Derry. Beaverbrooks have a shop in Belfast. There might be some places in Newry too. For a wedding ring I'd consider going north, you'll have more choice and it might even be cheaper.

DW is a U/W depending on maker. She has some difficulty getting rings I admit, but it's not impossible,

SkaneTos · 18/11/2023 15:04

Look in another shop!

Even if you can't find a ring you like in your size, a decent jeweller can make the band bigger and it shouldn't cost too much!

Dreamingofasandybeach · 18/11/2023 15:05

I'm an R! Go to a different shop or look at the same store and buy online?

ButtonMoonMrsSpoon · 18/11/2023 15:05

I'm a U. I just get my rings resized

oakleaffy · 18/11/2023 15:06

You may have larger knuckle joints and slim long fingers.
Quite normal.

Ducksinthebath · 18/11/2023 15:06

Q really isn’t big so don’t feel bad. I wonder if she just meant that it was the last size they had in that ring but worded it badly?

Also, very good point made by a PP about knuckle size. It’s not really representative of your actual finger size.

Absolutely! I've been wearing an R for 25 years and my Granny's engagement ring is a bit too big for me to risk wearing it often.

Whoever served you was unhelpful, unprofessional and unkind.

Long fingers are lovely!
I have long fingers and yours are probably Pre Raphaelite style- Look at Rosetti paintings to see this type of hand.💕

babbi · 18/11/2023 15:13

I’m sure your fingers look long and elegant !
Please ignore the sales girl .

I’m at the other end of the scale … fingers so small that they are child size and need adjusted too . Smallest ladies ring too big … I don’t look elegant at all …

I hope you find a lovely ring that you love
