My dad stressing about his mobile phone transfer

My dad needed a new phone he was out of contract with a v old phone. We bought a new phone and I’ve signed him up to a new sim only contract with new provider. I gave the pac code when I signed him up today as the online form asked for this.

is his old phone going to get cut off now within 24 hours. He’s panicking as he says he won’t know how to put the new sim in his new phone and wanted to wait to do it when I see him next week.

im feeling really stressed now that he’ll be without a phone.

I’m hoping the new sim arrives tomorrow but won’t be there to sort it all out for him.

Can you contact the original provider and ask them not to cut the phone off until the new one is up and running?

Or...can he go into a phone shop and ask them to set up the new phone when he gets the new sim?

Yes. It’s just he’s not going to be home till Sunday now so I’m worried he will end up with no service and won’t have the new sim

Any transfer like this usually ends in disaster.
Phone/Internet companies provide some of the worst service in the country.

Good luck...

Yes, that is what is going to happen. His phone is going to be cut off and he isn't going to be at home to get his new sim.

Has he got the new phone? If so he could go and get a pay as you go sim.

But the best solution is to stop his old phone from getting cut off.

They don't usually work that quick but just in case...

Where is he, if he's not at home this week? Could he (as back up) buy a PAYG SIM from a local phone shop and ask them to put it in for him? I'm assuming he has all your numbers etc so can just do this in the short term, if needed.

Oh god he’s going to kill me. 🤦🏼‍♀️

That's not my experience, I've found it works very well but the physical putting of the sin card into the phone is the hardest part imo

I once dropped a new SIM card down the side of the sofa and ended up having to go back to the shop for another one so I see how that could be a problem

I phoned the new provider. He won’t get cut off. To activate the port he has to actually make a call with his new sim this will then trigger the process so his existing phone is fine till he gets home. V relieved.
