To ask how informed / engaged you are with your local council?

I get most of my updates on what is going on where I live from the local newspaper.

I'll occasionally complete a response to a consultation if the link is shared on the council Facebook page.

But recently, I've spent more time reviewing the council papers online and joining to view the cabinet meetings which can be accessed easily on Teams in the evening. - I feel quite extreme dong this. Like probably only a very small number of people are aware of the meetings and their content.

All the big decisions about social care, leisure, homelessness etc are discussed and decided and I think it's good to have an understanding of what is going on in our local area.

So, AIBU to ask to what level do you engage with your local authority?

I’m a parish councillor so reasonably engaged. 😉

Not much, though I do know who my local councillors are and one of them laid a wreath at the war memorial on Sunday.

Early conclusion is that unless you're a councillor then probably not that engaged.

I get it, most people probably feel a bit let down my local government and powerless to change anything. Local newspapers tend to pick up on main stories about developments \ closures / Ofsted etc and that is likely to be sufficient.

I admit I do find my heightened interest a bit sad and wouldn't openly admit to viewing these meetings!

I'm on the email list so get regular updates etc and take part in any consultations i'm invited to. I don't want to be an unengaged resident who complains about stuff.
