To buy unconventional shoes for my kids?

Got a little tale from my recent trip to Clarks for a seemingly simple leather polish run. You know how these things go - in and out, no biggie. But lo and behold, the Clarks shoes lady decided to spice things up a bit.

While I'm casually browsing the polish selection, she decides to drop a bombshell about barefoot shoes, claiming they might not be the best for my homeschooling munchkins.

Now, here's the deal - I'm all about the barefoot life, been singing its praises in our homeschooling bubble.
So, now I'm standing there, polish in hand, questioning my entire shoe philosophy. Do I stick to my barefoot guns, or is there some ancient wisdom in the traditional route that I'm missing?

Am I being unreasonable to cling to the barefoot dream despite the Clarks lass's caution?
I'd love to get your take on this unexpected shoe saga. Hit me with your wisdom, Mumsnet!

Stick to barefoot shoes, and no shoes when indoors. Shoes really aren't very good for our feet. Winds me up that my kids wear them all day at school and nursery

All those with no shoes in Victorian times would have literally died for a pair of shoes. How times change!

Well, what are your reasons for barefoot shoes, and what did the Clarks lady say?

Well it’s been minus 1 today, I’ve had 2 pairs of socks on and boots and my feet are still freezing, I can’t imagine what it would be like barefoot. I’ve just seen a little girl in Tesco with leggings, no socks and crocs, poor girl must be freezing. My kids are in thick socks today and sturdy Clark’s school shoes.
