The top is boiling hot. It’s a rangemaster. Really want to go to bed but obviously this is a problem…

Switch it off at the wall or if you haven’t got an isolator switch (you should have), flick the cooker circuit switch on the board.

@BoobyDazzler just switched off at the wall abs light has gone off. Why is this happening though? The nob is definitely off

Could be a faulty switch for now use the mains power to on and off but get a “cooker man” out.

pickledandpuzzled · 13/11/2023 20:41

Could the knob have been put on wrongly, so you’re turning it on rather than off?

OneTC · 13/11/2023 20:41

Isn't that just a 'warning hot " light?

pvenn · 13/11/2023 20:51

@OneTC it’s gone off now, is it a warning light?

On some electric hobs they have a light to let you know that the surface is still too hot to touch, even if it's not switched on.

It could be that.

I guess this cooker isn't yours then?

If you're unsure id agree to switch it off at the power until you're sure that's what it is

pvenn · 13/11/2023 21:01

@OneTC its ours, just never use it!!! Thanks for advice, it’s cooled now but I think I will keep it off at the wall and just turn on when needed?

Try looking up the makers web site. They generally have thing like appliance hand books / manuals / instructions on them.
If so, you’ll know exactly where you stand between safety feature or defective switch that needs attention.
