..to think these .gov sponsored/"free" coding courses are a waste of time?!

Browsing for a retraining/new career opportunity online and coding keeps popping up, but why are there sooo many free courses (& all "promising" entry into tech careers on completion)?! What is the agenda?? Some of them claim to be gov sponsored - Are we as a nation so behind globally that there is deemed such a need for this funding??

And more importantly, has anyone on here actually completed any of these courses and got anywhere with a new career??! Interested to hear of success (& failure!) Stories!

Learning something new is generally a good thing, and i believe there is a chronic shortage of skilled people in this area

Thanks for your input Busephalus and Im inclined to agree but I'm also disinclined to commit to something which will take precious time if it's not going to lead to anything 🤔

I have seen some advertised that seem to be affiliated with my local council, but like you, I am not sure as it looks like one of those “too good to be true” adverts, to am extent that there will be a requirement to pay hidden in there somewhere, once you have shared all your personal information and taken time to “apply”…
