AIBU to drive 17 miles round trip for a coffee?

Lighthearted! It’s Sunday morning, I have two hours to myself. I have a coffee subscription through a discount code at the moment which means it wouldn’t cost me anything. I really fancy a coffee from the Christmas menu. It wouldn’t cost me a penny, only the drive is 20 mins/nearly 9 miles each way so it’s obviously the fuel to get there. I do love sitting and people watching though and find I really unwind. On the other hand I can also wait until tomorrow as I’ll pass the coffee shop on my commute to work normally.

AIBU to go today to get it?

Definitely go !

ButDoYouAvocado · 12/11/2023 09:21

Go! Enjoy the peace of a nice drive with some good music on. Also I need to know what is special about this coffee. What’s Christmassy about it?

dylanschicken · 12/11/2023 09:22

I would go but you are brave asking mumsnet, there are so many people on here who barely breathe as they don't want to impact the environment.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 12/11/2023 09:22

Go and enjoy your coffee and ignore the Christmas stuff, it’s still too early!

Afteropening · 12/11/2023 09:23

Go tomorrow to that coffee shop when you’re actually passing

and go to a much closer one today

BitofaStramash · 12/11/2023 09:23

Enjoy

Glitterybee · 12/11/2023 09:23

That’s what Sundays are for!

Enjoy ☕️

Life is short and we all recently spent time on house arrest. Do what makes you happy :)

Motnight · 12/11/2023 09:24

Go! Enjoy!

Nopenopenopenopenopenope · 12/11/2023 09:24

I wouldn't drive that far just for that. Either cycle or go when I was passing.

Lifestooshort71 · 12/11/2023 09:25

YANBU. I like to go out for a drive with the prospect of a decent cup of coffee (and cake) at the end of it. If your journey is a pleasant one, then go for it and see it is as a leisure activity, no worse (and a lot better) than dragging the whole family round a supermarket on a dismal Sunday - why do people do that? Enjoy the coffee ☕️

choppolata · 12/11/2023 09:25

Go today, it won't be the same on your way to work tomorrow. But check it's open on a Sunday!!

RedCoffeeCup · 12/11/2023 09:26

Yes! Do it OP.

Ourshoddyhouse · 12/11/2023 09:27

I'm not sure why anyone would drive to buy a coffee when you can make a perfectly fine cup at home for 0.05p OP how frivelous of you.

In all seriousness, go, take a book with you and enjoy that coffee.

Mamato29192 · 12/11/2023 09:27

Go!

HamsterBanana · 12/11/2023 09:27

Sundays are for people watching & taking it slow, go get the coffee! Brew

MasterBeth · 12/11/2023 09:27

I wouldn't think twice about going eight miles away to do almost anything. What's the worst that could happen?

WeighDownOnMe · 12/11/2023 09:27

A 20 minute journey is nothing, go and enjoy!

theduchessofspork · 12/11/2023 09:31

Absolutely go

Relaxing and people watching on a Sunday is very different to a quick coffee grabbed before work

muchalover · 12/11/2023 09:32

How to say you don't live rurally without saying you don't live rurally.

I drove 35 min each way yesterday to see if they had paint in a colour I want. They didn't so on my 40 min drive to walk the dogs later I will check somewhere else. (I drive to a river because the dogs like a swim and we went to the beach yesterday).

Everywhere is a drive because we don't have buses, trains etc. I live in a town.

Afteropening · 12/11/2023 09:37

This makes me so happy that I live walking distance from all my favourite coffee shops… both independent and a couple of the chains

susiedaisy1912 · 12/11/2023 09:39

I regularly drive 10 miles there and 10 miles back to meet friends for coffee as I have moved away from my local town. I don't even think about it being too far.

Dontcallmescarface · 12/11/2023 09:46

The nearest coffee shop to where I live is a 20 mile round trip. Go, enjoy the coffee and people watching.

coffeedrinking · 12/11/2023 09:56

Thanks everyone! On the way.

I'm sitting in a coffee shop right now enjoying having the time to scroll the internet and have a coffee.
