Should I complain to this hairdresser?

I wanted to get blonde highlights, and I found a package (1/2 head, cut, blow dry and an eyebrow tint) for £90.

When I go in there she says “ok I might need to do 3/4 head just so the back of your hair is covered as well”.
When it’s being washed she says “I’ll just pop a bit of toner in there”.

It comes to blow dry/styling and, at the beginning of the appointment I showed them a loose wave I wanted. Another lady does the styling, and the original hairdresser says to the lady “oooh do some curls, I want to see the colours through it”. She ends up doing ringlet curls and makes me look ridiculous.

The highlights came out a silvery colour. Also, I didn’t even get an eyebrow tint which was supposed to be part of package.

Anyway, I go to the till and she says “£160 please”. I said I had the package and she said “well I had to do more foils and pop toner in there”.
Am I wrong in thinking she should’ve warned me about the extra price rather than just casually mentioning it? Surely I should’ve just got half head, and toner included with any blonde? She just sprung an extra £70 which I don’t really have on me at the end of the appointment, which I had no choice but to pay. I was in a rush and was also surprised so I just paid it.

Am I wrong in thinking this is really crap of them??

Did you say that you just wanted the package when you sat down?
I would have mentioned it when they said about the extra foils tbh as hairdressers these days seem to be all about the upsell.

YANBU to think it’s awful that they didn’t pre-warn you it would be x amount extra though.

Badatthis · 10/11/2023 17:56

You'll get people saying you should have refused to pay but I'd have done the same as you. YANBU.

It was really busy and I was in a rush, plus it kind of took me by surprise so I just went “oh okay”. Wish I said something now!

And yeah I did mention it. I thought she just was being helpful by adding a few more foils 😭

She's ripped you off. 100% complain and ask for a refund of £70. She knew what she was doing.

ExTheCheater · 10/11/2023 18:01

They have a decent scam going there.

dementedpixie · 10/11/2023 18:01

Sound like she was taking the piss if you had said at the start you were having the package and didn't even get the brows done. And they chose to add extra foils and didn't say it'd cost extra so they shouldn't have charged more.

purplecorkheart · 10/11/2023 18:02

Sadly this is an issue with these packages. They are bargains to get you on the chair. You cannot make assumptions, when she said about the extra foils you needed to ask were they included with then package and the same with the toner. Normally you tick that you agree with the terms and conditions of the package and normally they say exactly what is included.

EvilElsa · 10/11/2023 18:04

Absolute rip off. You booked a package, she should have mentioned additional foils and toner would be extra and asked your permission to do these not just "I'm going to to add some toner" etc.
Sounds like you didn't get the result you were after either, not the colour or the style. I'd email and let them know. I understand the not wanting to say at the time.

MonaDaVinci · 10/11/2023 18:05

This kind of upselling is why I moved to a new hairdresser. My old one was relentless and it became uncomfortable and very expensive.

EvilElsa · 10/11/2023 18:05

Oh and with missing the eyebrows I don't know how the "extras" cost an extra £70. Scam.

HaveSomeIntrospect · 10/11/2023 18:05

I’ve had this happen before. I used a mobile hairdresser for years and followed her to her salon. I never paid more than £100 whenever I went. One time I had a different stylist and when I went to pay it was £160. I paid but call the hairdresser later, I referred to her as a friend as we had known each other for years). She said it was so expensive because it was a senior stylist who did all the bells and whistles.
I can’t afford that kind of money, so never went back.
hairdressers should have to tell you very clearly how much it is going to be.

Starlightstarbright2 · 10/11/2023 18:23

Yanbu … I went in a walk in one which said prices from . Because my hair was longer it was another £60 . I left and went elsewhere .

i would complain but also then write a review once the conclusion has been given .

uncomfortablydumb53 · 10/11/2023 18:27

She's ripped you off
She should have asked you if you wanted the extras and pointed out the cost giving you the option to say no

Mamato29192 · 10/11/2023 18:47

Yanbu

Catza · 10/11/2023 19:39

Toner is not normally included in highlights (not everyone would need it) but the hairdresser should have confirmed the cost with you before starting.
