To ask if you recognise this castle UK/ROI

DH is not British. But he did come on a school trip to UK and again to ROI at some point as a teen in the 1990s.

He is really misty on where he went and I'd love to know.

Does anyone recognise this castle? Could be anywhere UK or ROI.
Appreciate it sounds a bit thick but I don't really remember where I went on trips as a kid. Several hours of bus and then a castle.

I'd love to know, just out of interest! Maybe our paths crossed!

Thanks for looking.

Google Lens says it's Leeds Castle in Kent.

LucyAnnTrent · 08/11/2023 11:42

Yes, I also got the confusingly-named Leeds Castle in Kent!

Leeds Castle in Kent

Yep it’s definitely Leeds castle- but most photographs I have seen include the lake - this angle misses some of the iconic Leeds features

NoSquirrels · 08/11/2023 11:48

Leeds Castle in Kent, as others say. It’s a really great castle, to be fair to him - all the best elements in all the right places! Well worth a trip.

DappledThings · 08/11/2023 11:50

Yep, Leeds. They still have the same sign!

TwinkleTwinkleTwinkleTwinkle · 08/11/2023 12:01

Thank you! Most of his other photos are of peacocks and hedgehogs and an owl in some kind of falconry show so no clues there.

It's funny, we've driven past Leeds Castle since and he's said , hey isn't Leeds in Yorkshire! 🤣 so he obviously has no memory of it at all.

If you plan a visit, I highly recommend when it's decorated for Christmas, it's lovely

Whowhatwherewhenwhy1 · 08/11/2023 13:01

definitely Leess Castle. It has the peacocks and falconry.

definitely Leess Castle. It has the peacocks and falconry.

Then I should have made the challenge more difficult and opened with the peacock 🤩😁

I've just had a look and it costs an arm and a leg now. Not sure how a bus trip of 90s europop kids managed it :-)

However I see that your ticket lasts all year which is a sweetener :-)

I see you've found it already, so I'll just add - for those who are confused by the name - Leeds Castle in Kent is named after a Saxon King, Leed (Led), whereas Leeds the city in the north was originally named Loidis, which is the Celtic/Norse merged name for the river it is on.
