Female toilets - disgusting portaloo - wwyd?

Is this a basic human right and I should face no judgement or am I being a Princess?

I work in a male dominated industry. I usually work in an office but due to a series of meetings on Friday I am out of office from 9am until around 3pm. There are no female toilet facilities, just a truly disguising portaloo that they use. I've done a search for the local area and there are no public loos nearby open. My office is a good hour's drive there and back and due to the meetings this is not going to be possible.

What am I going to do? I'm peri-menopausal and can hold off for about 3hours at most. I just cannot use the portaloo it is utterly disgusting.

That sounds grim. Any supermarkets or pubs? You'll need to have lunch so that's a good reason to pop out & find somewhere.

Could you use the portaloo with a shewee?

Is it really disgusting as in dirty and a hygiene risk or just grim as portaloos generally are? I’ve done a lot of festivals so I’m accustomed to gross toilets so I’m inclined to say you might be being a princess as I doubt it’ll be a horrid as any toilets I’ve encountered at Glastonbury. Agree with a shewee for making it easier

What is wrong with it? Poo on the seat/handle/walls or just smells?

Portaloos aren't great but they're functional. Buy a travel John or portable travel urinal

I think some of the posters on here have never experienced a portaloo used almost exclusively by men. A portaloo isn’t a great experience at the best of times, but add to that the disgusting state that men make of their toilet facilities when left to their own devices and you have an experience akin to the Trainspotting toilet scene. OP definitely isn’t being a princess.

I have a friend who rents a workshop with a handful of other men. The toilet is absolutely horrifying. Shit on the floor, on the cistern, caked up the inside of the toilet, smears of shit on the wall and on the flush handle, puddles of urine all over the seat, the floor. The sink is blocked full of toilet roll. It’s rarely flushed. These are normal educated men, and the toilet was fine when they moved in. They just don’t clean it and they don’t seem to care. They laugh about it. I used it recently, in desperation, and it was dire. Don’t underestimate the vileness of an exclusively male toilet.

It's not that its a portaloo as a whole, if it wasn't covered in their poo and wee and general disgusting behaviour I wouldn't have an issue with using one. It's a building site toilet so you can only imagine. As for using a bush, no I don't think so with 15 tradesmen hanging around.

I'd buy some loo seat covers, bleach and air freshener for my own personal use. I've worked in male dominated industries for years, I've put up with many a foul loo -one had no loo roll frequently. I bought my own stocks and kept them in my drawer. We had signs on the doors but nothing changes.

YANBU. Find a McDonalds or a hotel and go there to use the loo. I'd completely refuse to use a portaloo that was disgusting.

I agree. Seat covers. You might be able to claim back on expenses if you kick up a fuss.

Garden centres usually have cafes and toilets

Are you advocating somebody pissing themselves in favour of giving the toilet seat a quick wipe or hovering?

There must be a supermarket, hotel, garden centre, pub, something near by?

There must be a petrol station or something near by?. I'd actually be saying something to the site super. Every site I've worked on in at least the last 5 yrs has a woman's only porta, locked & you are given a key when you do your site safety on the 1st day. That said sometimes it's busy & you've just got to go so take a deep breath, don't look down and distract yourself with the 'witty' musings on the wall.

Supermarket or McDonald's!

It's in a tiny village with one very posh hotel and a small post office/corner shop defo no MacDonalds within 50 miles.
@Floatinginatincan I have been asking for a women's only portaloo for years (over different sites) but it falls on deaf ears.
Some good tips though, I'll go with loo roll and disinfectant.

Get a shewee and learn to use it standing up. Won’t solve your problem entirely but at least won’t be quite as bad.

Can you go for a walk and pee in some woods?
