Mother-in-law selling her house after offering it to us

I'm probably being unreasonable. But hear me out...

We have decided to move closer to mother in law. It's not the only reason, but it is definitely a huge factor in our decision. She is widowed, lonely and struggling. We want her to feel more part of our everyday lives and being physically closer is an obvious solution.

At the start of our house search I was pretty adamant that I did not wish to buy a house that needed a lot of work. We have a one year old and a three year old and I am not naive about how hard it would be to fit in a house project with raising a young family. Anyway, over time mother in law has convinced me that we would manage a bit of a do-er upper and that this is normal 'to put your stamp on it' ect. At some point she offered that we could stay with her if needed for a short time (a few months) to do some work to a new house to spare having to work round children with jobs like potential new carpets, bathroom work, that sort of thing.

This generous offer helped sway us to put in an offer on a house that does need a bit of work, against my better judgement but with the promise of help and refuge in her home during the tricky parts of getting the house ready.

The day our offer was officially accepted mother in law turns around and tells us she has decided to sell her house! She has now had a valuation and is putting it on the market asap. She will stay in the same town as us but isn't being very forth coming with her plan or timescales.
She has become concerned her house could flood after recent heavy rain and neighbours getting her all riled up with scaremongering. It didn't flood but they have have feared her.

Am I a total selfish arse for thinking her timing stinks.
It's thrown out plan into jeopardy and its giving me all kinds of logistical headaches.

I love the house we are in the process of buying and I would hate to pull out.

I also know I have no right to tell mother in law what to do with her own life.
