Taking my ex to court to stop him controlling us

My son's who are teenagers moved in with their dad march this year so they can be at a much better school and have their own room. Ever since he's stopped them staying over at my house and has limited physical contact between me (their mother) and them.
He was brought up religious, he doesn't follow it, but wants the boys to follow it.

They wouldn't to come to a family Halloween party because it's to celebrate "the devil".
I respect what they want to do but now he won't let them come out for family days out or even visit the family. They've done nothing wrong! They're just "too Christian" apparently. But we don't believe in God yet we still respect religions.
I applied to court as I'd had enough of stopping them. The ex found out and now he's text me. He's mad and said he's going to make up stuff about me and that my daughter (not his) in his danger! Such bull!
I think maybe I shouldn't have done this court order.
Their dad never bothered with them when they were younger. He let them down constantly and once he threatened to leave them outside the door if I don't come back after 10 mins of him having them so he could go to work!
He scared me when we lived together he threatened to burn me and the kids inside the house if I don't do as I was told.
