DD almost 4 ( Jan ) always wants me to go to the toilet with her

Hi all,

I'm wondering if this is normal ? DD goes to nursery where she goes to the toilet by herself.

Whenever she's home, she always wants me to go with her. Every single time. She has a step and a little toilet cover so she is comfortable.

Is that normal ? I also tend to still help her wipe when she's at home, especially after number 2.

Am I babying her ? Should I say no, go by yourself ? I encourage her to go by herself but she nags me until I go with her. This morning I just couldn't go and she ended up going by herself.

She's my first child, so I'm not sure what's normal/ what isn't or whether I'm doing something wrong.

My DD is the same age, and I still go with her. I think it’s normal!

I think it’s normal - it’s a comfortable routine. Nothing wrong with encouraging independence gently by asking her to go alone when you’re in the middle of something but it’s most likely something she will grow out of on her own.

Definitely normal for that age in my experience, don't worry

My DS1 did this for ages...he has an active imagination and was scared of monsters in the bathroom.

He outgrew it eventually, I tried not to get frustrated as I remember being similar as kid - would panic if my parents were downstairs and I was upstairs/worried there might be dinosaurs in the back garden (insert other random irrational kid fears).

Aw yes she panics at night or anytime it's dark really and we aren't close by. Say upstairs / downstairs etc. she gets really scared.

She never asks anyone else to go to with her, just me.

I also think when I go take her to the toilet, she has that undivided attention and one on one time, which maybe she's missing.

We always have a nice chat and a big cuddle on our own ( away from her little toddler brother ). Although he does try to barge in of course.

I think that could be part of it too. She just wants to hang out a bit with me.

Normal here too. Now at nearly 5 DC shuts the door on me and wants ‘to be alone’ 😆 I (kind of) miss our toilet chats.

Normal at this age. Don't worry OP.

Totally normal. Especially if you are outside of home.
Up to about age 8 for my DD. I'd have to take her to the loo but wait outside the cubicle.
