Tea towels! Help settle a debate between DH and I

Lighthearted!

One of us uses tea towels to dry dishes and dry kitchen sides AFTER they have been cleaned.

One of us uses tea towels to soak up spilt drink on the floor, to dry off potatoes after they've been rinsed before making chips or roasties, to wipe sides of spillages before they've been cleaned.

Who is right?

I use them for both. Just make sure that a tea towel that has been used for the dirtier stuff is consigned to the wash before anyone can use it to dry crockery etc.

The alternative to the dirtier use of tea towels is masses of kitchen roll, and who wants to be bothered with the faff and environmental waste of that? (Washing tea towels doesn't contribute to environmental issues in my house because no matter how many I use, they can still be fitted into my normal washing loads).

Definitely! I use cotton tea towels and the terry (?) type towels for hands.

Those cotton tea towels are the work of the devil. One saucepan and they’re saturated! Completely pointless.

Both? We get through many tea towels.

underneaththeash · 01/11/2023 20:50

Neither, both are unhygienic.
Dishes can drip dry and you clear spills with kitchen roll, a dishcloth (which you wash) or a mop (if on the floor)

We use tea towels for all of the above, except cleaning boots. They get washed a lot.

Loving all of the replies 😂

To be clear, I only use 1 sheet of kitchen roll (I buy the decent one and it lasts about 3 months) to wipe the sides to dry them. I use Minkys (see picture) for actually cleaning the sides. I have a couple for the kitchen and a couple for the bathroom.

I dry my hands on tea towel after I've washed them in the kitchen?
